don't want to wait

I found this website last month when I was scheduled to have TAH on 2/11. In the meantime, I decided to postpone my surgery since I am a teacher, wanted to do it in summer, had a big vacation planned for spring break, etc.

Now I am having second thoughts. My stomach has swollen up like a balloon, I had the worst period ever last week and I threw up after eating a big meal at a party last night. It seems like the fibroids are growing faster than ever and I am feeling worse and worse. I called and could get a refund on my tickets to Japan. I have been in tears all morning and just need a little advice. Maybe I should postpone my trip after all and get this over with. Help!

don't want to wait

Like you, I kept having things come up and kept putting my surgery date off and I must say, I wish I hadn't. I put mine off for about a year waiting on a "better time". I feel better now than I have in 5 years. Yes, I missed out on somethings because I had my surgery just a few weeks before Christmas, but as you can see, I lived through not seeing my brother this year (I would have to travel 4-5 hours and couldn't ride that long).

I think it's one of those things that there never will be a good time to have surgery, you just have to decide when you've had enough and go with it.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

don't want to wait

I understand how you feel about wanting to postpone surgery. My surgery is scheduled for next week and I am having second thoughts as well. I think that if I were in your place being that you are getting worse that I would go ahead and have the surgery as planned and go for your big vacation during the summer break when you are healed from surgery and have no more symptoms of your condition. But that is just my advice. I hope it helps.

Best of wishes to you,
Charity

Don't Want to Wait

I am a first grade teacher. In September 2003 I begin to have horrible cramps, severe backache, moodiness from endo growing back after having a laproscopy and D&C to remove/burn the endo in April 2003.

My doctor felt that a TAH/BSO was the only way for me to get any relief, I really wanted to wait until summer but I decided that it would be best for me to miss 8 weeks of school instead of trying to teach the rest of the school year in constant pain. I had my TAH in October. I did feel very guilty about leaving my students to a substitute but I felt that I would be doing them a terrible injustice if I tried to wait until the summer.

In our school system we get ten sick days a year...if you don't take them the days will accumulate from year to year. I had 140 days acculmulated and my husband just kept reminding me this is the reason you have your sick days and you have to do what is best for you!! (And my class survived without me!)

My advice to you is to do what is best for you!!!
