it's long but I NEED help,please read

Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever experienced an absess either in the bowels or on the outside of the vaginal canal? If so does it cause pain after intercourse?
Well I guess it will make it easier if I explain what the problem is.
I have posted this before, but maybe someone else may read this and have some ideas.
I had my abdominal hyst. in Sept of 2003, for cervcal cancer. Left my ovaries. I had one skin absess, packed it for 11 days -gone. I had another absess in my vaginal canal that ruptured with the help of my dh's penis. Since then we have only had sex a handful of times. Everytime within 5 minutes of the act I am in agony. I have SEVERE stomach cramps, diarrhea, gas, tenderness in my groin area. It usually lasted for about 24 hours. It felt like I had surgery again. We tried again on Saturday night. Now 5 days later I am still in pain. This time it is alittle different though. Remember after your surgery how your bowels stopped working, you couldn't pass gas or have a bm without being in agony. Well that is what it is like again.
Yes I have been to the surgeon. He is shocked and has never heard of anything like this before. He said adhesions are normal and these symptoms don't sound like adhesions. It can't be ovaries I would have pain all the time( or sharp pain during the act) I have no pain during sex. I had an x-ray looking for bowel obstructions, that showed nothing. I am having an ultrasound next week. He said it could be fluid build up between my bowels and vagina. (The reason for the original question)
I am extremely concerned this time because the pain has not gone away. I hate pain medication, it makes me useless and I can't take care of my 3 kids.
If anyone can give me some insite on this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you Theresa

I'm sorry Theresa, I don't have any ideas for you, but just wanted to send you some big 's because what you described sounds horrible. I too have pain after sex, and usually the whole next day due to abdominal wall trigger points. That's what they say, anyway. I'm glad you have gone to your doctor and they are looking into it. I hope someone will come along soon that can give you more insight than I have. Keep us posted, ok?
My prayers are with you and I hope you feel better soon.

(((Theresa))):

It's not unheard of (although incredibly rare) to have an intestinal/vaginal fistula, especially in the face of the abcess history. Diverticulitis is also more common in those of us post-hyst, for some reason.

If you're running ANY sort of fever, or begin vomiting, it's a "run, don't walk" trip to the ER, kids or not. Peritonitis is NOTHING to fool with!

Fluid in the cul-de-sac would definitely be a sign of infection; you don't say what type of x-ray you had for bowel obstruction, but just a "flat film" wouldn't necessarily illustrate an obstruction; only a barium enema or perhaps C-T scan will answer the question -- and you may need a C-T with contrast enema to finally answer the questions.

Honestly, if your pain is this bad that you can't take care of your family, waiting a whole week for an ultrasound really isn't acceptable. I'd call back and ask if you can be squeezed in as an emergency; I do ultrasound and we see "emergency" patients all the time. In the meanwhile, please keep an eye on your temperature, and try to take it as easy as you can -- NO lifting or major strains which could only make things worse.

Big, gentle s to you -- and I hope you get answers SOON!

Audrey
