1.5 Years Post, Kept Ovaries. Question about new pains

Hi Ladies!

Gosh, it's been so long since I've been here... but you know what they say, no news is good news!

All has been well since my surgery 11/1/02... wow! That long already!

My body functions good, all healed up and well... but now I have some new symptoms that may or may not be related.

I am being treated for a recurring UTI.... third course of anti-biotics now. Anyway, I am accustomed to those related symtoms, but now I've had a couple days of pelvic tenderness, dull achiness in that region, and the occasional shooting pain on one side or the other.... right about where my ovaries would be. Ouch! (The pain doesn't seem to be as high up as my kidneys, but it's hard to tell)

My question... I kept my ovaries and understand they still function. I've had a ruptured ovarian cyst 20 years back... and am wondering if I should give this the same attention. (It took my fainting in the shower before we got me in for an ultrasound, which showed it loud and clear).

Any feedback.... or perhaps a better board to post this type of question?

Thanks in advance!

Hugs,
Cori

Any new pain should always be reported to your doctor. Please give them a call and let them know how you are feeling. Let us know what the doctor has to say.

hysts done in same year

but you're a few months before me. I also kept ovaries and recovered well, putting away years of health problems and started feeling great so wasn't exactly thrilled to start getting kidney and bladder infections and pain on right side and what seemed like never ending pmt.

Out of 3 utis, one was positive, the other two were negative and when I went for my annual vault smear I asked gyn about this and the pain and he did a songram that showed a cyst on ovary.

that in itself is not uncommon but they usually resolve and reabsorb, but this one didn't. He also suspected I had adhesions which were causing my kidney problems.

To cut a long story short, I had my right ovary removed and the cyst was not actually in it but had grown in the tube, and I did have adhesions, which have been dissected. I am waiting to get path report in full next week.

I think you should head back to your surgeon or even a urologist who can check out in greater detail what could be causing these health issues and pain, especially with your history of previous cyst.

Please keep in touch, and the other suggestion might be to post on the road less travelled forum as that is for princesses having problems for 6 months post op so there are a few of us over there. Hope you feel better soon, Linda

Ovulation Questions...Pains and ER Doc's Comments

Hi Ladies,

THanks for the suggestions. I did get to the ER last Thursday night and went through a pelvic exam and discussion. He also sent for CA-125 test. The doc didn't feel any mass, but had me listen to my pelvic region where he noted lots of 'fluid activity'... His 'guess' was that I had produced an egg and the related fluid was irritating my pelvic region, and that the pain should subside after a day or so.

He said to come back to ER if the pain worsened, and then wrote up an OK for a SOnogram if I am still uncomfortable and concerned. WELL, I am! The reason is that it is now Monday, and these 'on and off sharp pains' and uncomfortable fullness have been present for 6 days now.

Does anyone know how long symptoms of ovulation would last? I used to have middle-pains on the day of my ovulation, but think that 6 days is way too long! I will feel fine for a while (taking pain killers though), and then all of a sudden the pain starts and I can barely walk without 'guarding' myself and feeling really tender down there. I get little twinges and shooting pains, and just a generalized sore/fullness in lower belly and top of my thighs.

I called into the Sonogram Dept and they can see me next MOnday... I don't think I want to wait till then, and will likely visit the ER again and have them call in a tech.

Does anyone have any ideas? I did call in for my CA-125 results, which was 11 ... in the normal range... so I don't know what it might be.... but it sure feels like ovarian-type pain to me!

Help!

Thanks so much,
Cori

Hi hun...

I had my SAH last April and have experienced the same pain you're describing...at least, that's how I've described the pain. There are times when it's hurt just to stand, and then sitting down helps relieve it a bit.

I would suggest the ultrasound. I had one done and they found a 3 cm cyst. The doctor told me it wouldn't cause that much pain, but they also wouldn't have known the cyst was there unless I told them it was hurting...so I don't buy his story about it not hurting.... I KNOW it hurts!

Anyways...right now I'm waiting to see if it shrinks or grows in the next 3 months.

Maybe your doctor could put a 'stat' on your orders for the test?

I'm glad you're following through with getting this checked out. I know how painful cysts can be...and the horror of having one rupture! OUCH!

Hugs and healing,

Rita

(please let us know how you're doing, okay?)
