gas & pooping!

Hi Jenny - Yep, I experienced the same thing (my TAH was 1/7/04). The gas pains are FINALLY going away and the bowel movements are getting easier as well. I found it helpful to eat mild foods like eggs (scrambled/hard boiled w/no butter or salt), saltines, plain ground beef, apple sauce, plain rice and instant oatmeal. When I tried anything spicy or fatty or ate a large meal or ate too fast the gas was unbearable. And I think as the bowel heals itself it seems to function better.

Hope that helps, take care,

trapped wind

I had my TVH on 1-8-04 and have struggled w/ the "wind" too. I still am, probably more now. But that wouldn't be happening as much if I were as careful as the last sisters post. She's on to something and I think I better try it. I eat too quickly and mostly junk food. I take the Gas X pills 4 pr day and still can't get comfortable w/ my wind. I think it's pretty normal w/ the way I'm eating. It just seemsed so much easier to eat healthy when I had more energy. Good luck and let me know if you find a foolproof way to eat the junk and be windfree!

trapped wind

I am 14 weeks post op, and I'm still having this problem-seems like I still need to be on the bland diet that the doc put me on for the first few post op days!

trapped wind

I wasn't allowed to leave the castle until I had passed some gas. (no bowel movements yet as I hadn't had any food, just liquids). It was there, moving around, but wouldn't pass. We tried everything, walking, apple juice, walking, enema, walking, nothing worked. The nurse called my doctor again and he said I must be vapor locked. (I thought cars got vapor locked, not people). But he wanted me to lay on my stomach and see if that helped. I'm two days post op now and suppose to lay on my stomach. I asked the nurse how I was suppose to do this and she said very carefully, but that it's possible. Well, with a little help from DH and a bunch of pillows, that's what I did and the gas moved almost immediately. Soon, I was on my way home. I used this method many times over the next few weeks when I'd feel like the gas was building up.
I hope this helps.
Take care!

I had a lot of problems with that after surgery too. Exactly as you described. I was beginning to think the muscle that push the stools through were dead. But it did eventually clear up. Sooner for some than others. I still have some trouble at times, but for the most part, it has cleared.

trapped wind

I remember the trapped wind all too well. Usually I would get up, walk around the house and lift my butt cheek up (sorry....I know....TMI, but it worked so well) and laugh. The kids ran away yapping about "mommy having gas," but like my mom used to tell me....

"It's better to fart and bear the shame then never to fart and bear the pain."

Gas

Lady Ophelia,
I love your mom's saying. I haven't laughed so much in ages.
We all have had the same problem, but now I know what to say to my prissy DH when he complains about gas. Thanks a million!

Glad I could help Wolftrap. I can't imagine having a prissy DH. Mine will rip them. He doesn't care. I just get totally embarassed when my youngest says "moooooooom...I farted" in public. You'd never know there's so many shades of red one person can go through so fast. Hehehehehehe!
