pre-op hospital visit
Yesterday I spent two hours at the hospital doing my pre-op. I'm having a TAH (leaving the cervix as it's stuck to the bowel by endometriosis.) I was concerned because I had a laporoscopy in June and had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic. This time I'm at a different hospital so my doctor had all the info faxed to her from one hospital and then faxed it to the hospital I'll be operated on on the 28th...and the stuff was actually there!
No line ups or waiting...I had a chest xray (I'm a smoker) blood and urine samples, met the head anaesthetist (who hopefully will do my intubation.) I'm a difficult intubation as well. I talked to her about the nausea after the laporoscopy. She said any abdominal surgery can cause nausea. I had gravol and demerol last time - she thinks the demerol might have made me sick and she says the gravol does nothing. Anyway, they are forewarned about my difficult intubaton and nausea after my last general anaesthetic.
I met the general surgeon who will be assisting my doctor and her partner (three docs!) and we talked about the endo and how it may have organs stuck to it that have to be removed. I thought from the laporoscopy they knew all about where my endo is but now I'm not so sure.
I've read here about women having gas after hysterectomy. All my docs can tell me is that sometimes the bowel gets gassy after being fooled with and that's why there is gas after hysterectomy.
I have my kids with me for the weekend and I'm cooking ribs and hanging out, even got my dawg... Somehow I find it less daunting to be five days away from surgery than to be 15 days away from surgery. I guess I'm mollified (for now) by the excellent pre-op app't. My hospital is small so maybe they will actually remember the info they received at the pre-op when its time for the operation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!
