bladder infection at 4 weeks post op

all last week (my 4th week post op TAH), I felt terrible. The worst I have felt since leaving the hospital. I did have a check up last week to see how I was doing and mentioned that I was not feeling well and thought I might have a bladder infection or something. Doctors office sent a sample to the lab at the hospital (this was on Monday afternoon). They said that if anything showed up on the lab report, they would call. So Tuesday, Wed. and Thursday goes by and I contine to feel terrible. I finally called the doctors office back on Thursday to tell them how sick I was feeling. I had to leave the nurse a message. They finally called back on Friday morning to tell me yes indeed I had a bladder infection................by that time, I was planning my own funeral!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway........I am on antibiotics, hoping to feel better VERY soon!!!!!!!!! Are bladder infections common after having a hyst?

bladder infection at 4 weeks post op

My Dr. and nurses told me in the hospital that the catheter can cause a bladder infection, especially if it has to be put back in if you are having trouble going to the bathroom. I had to have mine put back in and the Dr. sent me home on an antibiotic so hopefully I won't have any problems. I am 12 days post-op. The nurses implied that getting a bladder infection is VERY painful and the last thing I'd want to deal with while recovering, so my good thoughts go out to you and hope you have a fast recovery!

bladder infection at 4 weeks post op

I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and last Sunday I ended up at Urgent Care and was diagnosed with a bladder infection. It was very painful and ended up going back to the doctor on Wednesday because I still was not better. I am now doing good and the pain has subsided. Drink plenty of fluids and cranberry juice was highly recommended. Get plenty of rest and be good to yourself. I can't believe that the doctors office waited so long to inform you that you had the bladder infection. Continue to take the medication until it is gone and let your doctor know if the pain doesn't go away. Good Luck.

The best way to avoid bladder infections is to drink at least 64 oz of water a day, about 8 oz every 2 hours and right thru the night until your bladder is working ok and is healing. I am2 months post opt and am still drinking the water around the clock. I also have 3oz of pure(no sugar added) of cranberry juice. Blueberries are good also. Cut out the sugar, a sweet urine system make it easier for bacteria to grow which are always there.. Never hold it when you have to go, in 20 minutes bacteria will turn to millions.
