D&C vs. in office biopsy

Hi,
I'm new to this site, have been reading the posts daily and it helps with a lot of my questions. I just switched gyn., and the new one, who I like, has scheduled me for an office uterine biopsy. My old gyn., wanted to do a D&C, hysteroscopy. Besides the issue of anesthesia, does anyone know if there's an advantage of one over the other? I've had fibroids for 7yrs, been putting off a hysterectomy, but they've really grown lately. I should also mention that I started Tamoxifen(2-time bc survivor) in Sept.2003. I've been having very heavy bleeding the past two months, as well as thickening of the uterine lining. That's pretty much why I'm finally considering a hysterectomy. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

D&C vs. in office biopsy

HI! I had two D & C's and one in office biopsy. I had more pain and trouble with the office biopsy. It was very painful and I received inconclusive results. I was not given any numbing medicine and they gave me a pain pill after it was done. I literally was screaming in pain on the table. However, my sister also had an in office biopsy and they numbed here somehow and she only had discomfort.

I think the best thing for you to do is listen to your doctor . I don't think I had a very good one. It took me a long time to have my hysterectomy because the doctor said I was too young. I suffered with very large fibriods and heavy bleeding for about seven years. I moved last January to a different state, and my new doctor was horrified of the shape I was in. He did some testing and tried some new medicine. When it came down to it, I had my hysterectomy on Dec. 10. It has made me feel so much better.

Just take your doctors advice if you are comfortable with him. My new doctor is great. He has given me my life back.

D&C vs. in office biopsy

I have had 2 d&c's and several office biopsy. I never had any numbing medication and was ok with it. It was sore at the time, but after 3 c-sections this was nothing. My sister-in-law just had a biopsy and my mother-in-law treated her like a queen, even took her to the doctor, brought her home and made her go to bed. I'm a little tougher than that. Yes, it was a little sore, but no big deal. I guess it depends on how well you handle any kind of pain. P.S. no sex for a few days.

D&C vs. in office biopsy

I have never had a D&C .. but I did have an in office biopsy of two uterine fibroids. The doctor also removed a cervical polyp at the same time. They gave me several Ibuprofin immediately before the procedure. They did not numb anything. It felt like a little pinch but that was it at the time. The removal of the polyp was the most uncomfortable and that wasn't bad. I then had bleeding of course for most of the day but no more than a lighter day of my period. I had lots of cramping during the day .. like a period but stronger. But I drove myself back to work and worked the remainder of the day and then went with my husband to one of his doctor appointments. Long day and as the day progressed I felt better.

So, my vote is that the in office biopsy is not a problem.

Good luck to you !!
