Test results are back! Can anyone shed more light on this

Ladies, my biopsy came back with me having endometrial hyperplasia. My doctor has decided to try me on the birth control twice a day to see if this helps the problem before we consider the hysterectomy. I have tried birth control method in the past with different doctors and alway come back to the same condition I am in now with the heavy and prolonged bleeding. This new gyn I have major concern is my age of 34 to be giving me a hysterectomy. I am just tired of living like this, its like I am back at square one. Do anyone have any advice for me. This heavy bleading is really wearing me down emotional.

Hi, Fighter,

I'm sorry you're continuing to struggle with this.
Did the doctor suggest Prometrium (progesterone) or birth control pills (which are usually a combination of estradiol and progestin)? As I mentioned in a previous post, I was given prometrium for endometrial hyperplasia, with good results, in terms of decreasing the hyperplasia. However, my fibroids continued to cause heavy bleeding. The bcp's I'm on now (Ovcon 35) have helped decrease the bleeding considerably, but the fibroids (and possible endometriosis) is causing increasing discomfort, so I'm opting for a hysterectomy in April.

I appreciate how frustrating all this can be. Keep us updated as you make your decisions. My thoughts and warm wishes are with you!

Dear Fighter,

I am an endometrial cancer survivor that has chosen progestins to reverse my assumed early stage cancer vs. having surgery.

I have chatted to another woman that used bcps in a similar situation to yours, and bcps are what I thought I should have been put on long ago.. However, she was annoyed.. feeling that it was a mistake because the bcps have the estrogenic component too, and that the bcps didnt do enough for her.

I used progestins and have a hormonal IUD. Some women have used the Mirena IUD (good for 5 yrs) alone to reverse their cancer. I believe it to be quite powerful against hyperplasia and fibroid bleeding (if the fibroids havent distorted the uterus too much) I hear that w/good placement, it can help reduce pain too.

I have my 2nd one (first one was removed during hysteroscopy) and I'm quite content w/it.

I hear you!!!!

I lived with horrid bleeding for so long because I thought that was normal. In November, when I finally sought help, my endometrium was 24-44mm and I was seriously anemic. Doc put me on Aygestin 5mg three times daily....tapering down to daily. I had a roller ball type ablation/D&C on 2/3/04 (too soon to know my outcome) My endo biopsy was normal and when I had my last pre op U/S, the endometrium was <9mm. I never knew there were so many of us living with floods and clots and accidents and embarassment....not to mention the strain of carrying on a "normal" life.
There is treatment out there! I hated the bloating and nausea I got from the Aygestin but it was a small price to pay! Hopefully my ablation will "take" but at least I know enough now to know I never want to live with the excessive bleeding.
