9 weeks post op - need to vent

I had my TAH/BSO on 11/26/03 and have had what seems to be a pretty normal/average recovery. I found this site about 2 weeks after my surgery and it has been incredibly helpful in getting through my recovery.

I know from using this site that it takes time to completely recover, but I'm feeling frustrated and a little depressed.

I haven't had any problems and I really have taken care of myself, but I'm tired of being sore all the time (not bad pain, just sore), of not being able to fit in my clothes, of being numb, etc., etc. I want it to be over! For the last three weeks I haven't gotten worse, but I don't feel like I'm improving either. If my dh tells me one more time to be patient--it just takes time I think I'll scream.

Someone tell me that this will all end and someday I'm going to feel really good again.

Thanks for listening and letting me vent......

Yes, it will end..

Hey, I can totally relate. I was not expecting this to be a big deal surgery.. don't know why because I had done all my reading and should have realized how major this was. I expected to have a normal recovery.. (just didn't realize what normal meant I guess). I had had gall bladder surgery about 30 years ago when I was 21. It was major. I didn't think anything could be worse.. ha. I was wrong. It took me until 6 months post op to feel like I was back to pre-surgery normal. I extended my 6 weeks to 7 weeks because I couldn't imagine going back to work, needed more like 12!! Sitting was a killer and I don't know how anyone manages a manual labor type of job.. it would have killed me. I was exhausted, sore, swollen, achy and on and on. Patience is hard when you're hurting and have figured out in your head that you should be past it.. well.. it does get better. Slowly and surely, it will improve. Seems like I had better days and weeks then some and by 6 months, I could actually go all day.. stay up until 10 p.m. after working and not think about the surgery during that time. It was almost surprising since I was beginning to think it was going to always feel that way. Glad I was on the mend. I spent last Sunday cleaning house.. obsessively..(rare). I felt the effects and could tie some of it to the old tugs and pulls after surgery. So, I guess it takes a bit longer to really be PAST all of that. You are on the verge of it all getting better.. hang in there.

9 weeks post op - need to vent

I seven weeks post op today and I feel your pain. I had a c-section 20 years ago and went back to work in 6 wks with no problems (that I recall!). I came back to work this week which is ok, but I have energy for absolutely nothing else other than to fall asleep on the couch. I'm already sick of the outfits I can comfortably wear to work. Shoot, I was hoping to improve some in the next two weeks, but I guess I'll have to relax.....and go shopping for some more elastic waist pants this weekend. I think we all just want to be "normal" again whatever that is. Take care all, it really helps to know you're not alone.

on the positive side

Ok, the swelly belly was awful but Ihave to say, I'm down 20 lbs. since surgery and I'm still (very slowly) losing. It can happen. I think I was just too tired to eat/prepare food.. but I also went on WellbutrinXR before surgery to hopefully quit smoking.. well, didn't work on that, but it's been wonderful on the weight loss. So, if there is a positive, besides walking down the feminine care isle at the grocery store and not having to buy.. it's been the slow, gradual weight loss. How about you gals? Any luck there? (if needed). I am at my target weight now about about a 35 lb. loss... yippeeeeee. (I've only recently been able to appreciate this)..

9 weeks post op - need to vent

I'm 10 weeks post op, and have just this week started to feel like myself again. I had been very achy in my groin and my incision area was pretty tender. Miraculously this week, all my little aches and paqins have dissappeared. I still need a good 10 hours of sleep and can't over-do, but for the first time in a long time, feel like "I'm back". I was able to get back into my regular pants a couple of weeks ago, but from what I've read on this site, that varies from woman to woman.

I hate to "beat a dead horse", but it will get better. Hang in there...I think you're almost there.

Good luck...feel good.

9 weeks post op - need to vent

I am 9 weeks post opt, had tvh, sling vault repair for prolaspe. Trouble with bladder but it is working. I have done nothing, no housework etc, no lifting etc. DH does everything. I did not have much pain just disconfort in recal area from sitting on chair any length of time.. I can sit in recliner no problem. I play a lot of bridge and was going to games at least 3 times a week before sugery but have not been able to and go do that as cannot sit in a chair with pillows for 4 hours. I really miss that so we are all in this boat togeter, you just have to make the best of a lousy situation. It beats being dead.
