Troouble laying down in Bed???

Ladies,

I am 9 days post op and over all doing pretty well. However, I am still sleeping in a recliner in our bedroom. We bought new mattresses not long ago and they are very firm. I tried laying in bed, and I feel like it is pulling to much on the incision and it is uncomfortable for me. So we are acting like Ozzie and Harriett with separate beds/recliners. My pain in quite tolerable, and I only take pain meds at night before going to bed. I get around fairly well....just not in the bed. Anyone else have this problem? I'll be honest, I miss being next to my DH. That was a comforting thing for me to just be near him. He pulled my chair next to him, and I can hear him breathing but I want my bed back!!!

And on a lighter note....I usually sit in the recliner in the living room with a stool to prop my feet on. Last night I sat on the couch which also reclines. Well....I got stuck. DS tried to lower the recliner and it wouldn't budge...I rolled to the middle of the couch and DH basically picked me up! We were all laughing by the time I was upright!

I was warned this morning to stay off the couch! God bless each of you, Terri

Troouble laying down in Bed???

Hi misspastor2
I to had problems lying in bed, it really hurt and was uncomfortable, however I found that using a pillow under my tum and between my legs really helped. However, I was 12 weeks before I could eventually lie on my stomach.
It takes time, take it easy s

Troouble laying down in Bed???

I had to sleep in the recliner for 6 weeks!!! I had a post-op hematoma and lying in the bed was impossible!!! It was SOOOO nice to get back to my bed!!! Now, I NEVER sit in that recliner!!! I was not able to move mine to the bedroom(limited space), but my DH, and my 7 yr. old slept in the living room with me!!! We just all camped out!!!! It was a VERY hard habit to break for my 7 yr. old, after sleeping in the living room for 6 weeks!

You will eventually be next to your DH in the bed again!!!

YEPPERS!!!

I am 11 days post op, and last night was the first night i was able to sleep in the bed.........I had to use a big pillow and put pillows underneath my legs.......Only problem I had was getting out the bed to go potty........I eventually ended back in the living room on the couch, which is much more easier for me.... My DH is leaving for Texas today and he wanted me next to him last night.....I really miss sleeping in my bed as well.. We just got to do what is best for our bodies at this point in time and eventually we will be able to move back into our beds....Good Luck in your recovery and God Bless

Troouble laying down in Bed???

I was able to get comfortable in bed, laying on my back with a pillow under my knees. The big problem was that I prefer to sleep on my tummy. I was able to transition to sleeping on my side with a pillow which was an improvement. Eventually I could sleep on my tummy, but it was painful when I would try to roll over, or get into bed and roll onto my tummy.

What was odd for me was that moving in bed and getting in and out of the car were the only things that were uncomfortable after the first few weeks.

Try experimenting with pillows and see if you can make something work.

BTW-there is something really cool about the healing. As time goes by, you realize discomfort and restictions just disappear.

Troouble laying down in Bed???

Hi Misspastor! I had surgery the same day you did (1/27) and can't wait for the day when I can lay comfortably in bed with my DH. I came home from the castle on Friday (1/30) and was very sore and found it very hard to get in and out of bed. I've been in the recliner most nights, too, especially the last few days.

Sunday night, I realized that I was coming down with a cold (courtesy of 2 co-workers who came to visit me in the hospital - everyone at work has been sick and they brought me a present - germs ! ). I've been coughing (which I so DO NOT recommend!! Talk about pain!! ) and sneezing (just as much fun as coughing) so much that I can't sleep anywhere but the recliner. I'm shuffling around the house like Ozzy Osbourne with my little pillow held to my tummy! (Shaaarrron!!)

I keep telling myself "it's only been 9 days...it's only been 9 days" and that's not very long considering the seriousness of our surgery. We need to take the time to let our insides heal, though, and do whatever is most comfortable even if it mean we're sentenced to "the chair".

I hope you feel better soon! Hang in there!

Hugs,
Kathy
