i'm also a newbie

i've always wanted to have it all removed for a long time now. i've had very irregular periods with lots of pain and heavy bleedy sometimes and sometimes not. i'm guilty i haven't been going to the dr. every year like i should . only every 3 yrs or so. never had one i was inpressed with untill now. during a regular pelvic exam the dr. felt something hard and ordered a pelvic ultrasound.
results:very large fibroid 11cm. waiting on results from endo biopsy before setting date. i am a school bus driver and a custodian. i really can't afford to take off work now so hopefuly we can wait till summer. but, now that the reality of a hyster. is coming i am very nervous and scared sh**tless.

do you think i should prolong it and drive my self crazy or should i just do it and be done with it.

hi, wndythewitch

only you can decide what to do. i'm glad you've found a good doc - i've also had problems finding a good doc in the past and i, too, only went about three years. when i called my first doc to make an appt, i found i'd been taken off his register because i hadn't been for so long! i was told ten years ago i had leukemia, but it turned out to be false positives for six months of blood testing because of a lot of shots i had before traveling (africa, indonesia, etc.) and malaria tablets! i was told to 'wind up my affairs' and prepare for a six-month end. i had a hard time trusting doctors after that, let me tell you.

do your research, think about your life and decide what's best for you. this isn't a race, necessarily, and if your symptoms dictate you can wait, then wait; if they don't, then don't. but only you can make an informed decision. consider everything about YOU and what YOU want.

good luck to you!

Smokers

Hi lvmyhusband and everyone,

I am a smoker too and worried about my four days or so in the hospital. My last surgery was out patient and I couldn't smoke for 24 hours before and I was stressing - so imagine this time!

I've decided that one month before, I'll start the nicotine patch to quit so it won't be so stressful and healthier too since I'll be "out" so long. Maybe you can try that, too?

I know what you mean about freaking out. Right now I'm freaking out about getting everything done I need to! I am trying not to freak about the surgery. Funny I really wanted this for so long and now I'm a nervous wreck.

My biggest concern is believe it or not staying at the hospital! I had the ablation last year so I have been "under" but I have never spent the night! Its so stupid, but I want to be home with my dog and my dh, plus I'm a smoker so I'm worried about the cravings.

We just have to remember why we are having it and how much better we will feel afterwards.

15 days away and freaking out

Well, My freaking out days are coming to an end with 1 1/2days left. I'm praying for all of us on the 24th. everyone good luck and I will be thinking of you and all others whom have to go threw this. God does have a way of putting us women through whatever we can handle. Sometimes he or she is a little harder on others but the light is near and a new life is begining. another life chapter will begin on 2/24/04. I look forward to it.

For all who have different dates to a castle I also think of you and I'm wishing you the best of luck my heart does go out to you and all.

Always,
Babyless

God bless
