My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

My Aunt is 1week post op, she is having VERY bad Gas pains and hasn't had a bm in several days. If anyone can offer any remedies, that would be great. She has already tried; gassX, prunejuice & ginger ale, and some fiber tablets.
Thanks

Walk, walk, walk! And walk some more! That gas is a killer. And also have her call the doctor when she feels the need. Sometimes a heating pad can help, too.

My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

A few years ago I went to a place called "Shapes to Come" in order to loose some weight. In the process, I too had some problems with irregular bms. The staff recomended to heat up a cup of tap water and then squeeze some fresh lemon into the water. I usually use about two slices of fresh lemon. It worked then and it worked when I came home from the hosiptal.

Good Luck, it is an uncomfortable feeling.

My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

The only thing that got me going was ducolax suppositories which my dr. recommended. I have been taking stool softners since to keep things going.

My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

I am 3 days post op and I ahd this the night after my op and they gave me a supposatory to help with the gas. Right now I am dealing with constipation so I am walking walking walking again.

Milk of mag and mylants is what the nurses gave me in the hops along wiht toradol b/c I was in extreme pain (could not move and it hurt to breathe.) My gas was in my upper rib cage and in my shoulder and as the day (yesterday) wore on I could feel it moving down a bit very slowly but it was moving down. Standing also helped me out alot.

My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

Magnesium Citrate........only in emergency!!!! She will cramp alot if she takes too much so be very careful on the dose....VERY EFFECTIVE!!!!!!! Can't say much about the gas......I would try gas x?????? Good Luck..........BTW is your Aunt on Pain MEDS??? If she is taking codeine for any lenght of time she will need to take stool softeners for sure and possible combine them with a gentle laxative.....Codeine constipates and with this surgery that is the last thing you want to be is constipated!!!!!!

My Aunt Has Terrible GAS..help

Unfortunately this is completely normal. It was about 1 week post-op before my first BM. I took Gas X, ate a banana every day, took a mild stool softener (Correctol), and drank plenty of fluids.

Pain meds will make constipation worse.

Hope she feels better really soon!

Please don't use a laxative without talking to the dr about it.
It could cause a lot more cramping and pain than you want!!! (I mean than your Aunt wants!)

stool softeners, hot fruit juice - and walking walking walking will probably help.
