Frustrated with bleeding

Hi I really don't understand all this bleeding thats going on with me. I talk to the doctors about it and was advise to go on some meds to make the bleeding come to an cease but it has not. I'm change pads every 1/2hr and really scared. The doc mention hysterectomy but I"m scared, do to all my clotting factors. So he wants me to wait it out to see if the bleeding is a bad recation to the meds. Now I 'm even more worried. what if it's not. Does the hysterectomy case alot of pain. Someome has to have been thru this. What did you do?

Frustrated with bleeding

i had the same trouble as you and went to my dr who did a D&C and then we decided to do a hysterectomy. best thing i have ever done because now no bleeding and they found out that i was pre-cancerous and if i had waitied much longer the cancer could have spread into the muscle. the operation of course you have some pain but nothing more than if you have had a C-section. as i said i am sooo glad i did it

Frustrated with bleeding

I've moved this thread from post-op forum (post-op for *after* hysterectomy and surgery recovery issues) to the "decision making, alternatives and choices pre-hyst decision forum.

I'd suggest talking to many doctors regarding your bleeding issues. THere are many treatments and medications that should be tried before deciding on a hysterectomy.

A hysterectomy should be the last resort, the final choice when all other treatments fail. (except in the case of cancer which in most cases is one of the first choices in order to combat the bigger issue: cancer)

Talk to your doctor about his reasoning. Ask for a second and third opinion. Do much research.

Scheduling a hysterectomy shouldn't be done lightly.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for soon.

Frustrated with bleeding

my flow onthe 2nd day was similar to yours . AT one stage my bleeding over time dropped my blood count to 7.5 .I could walk and over flow a fresh pad and my record was having a super tampax overflow in 55 minutes .

After a course on Lucrin to stop my menses for 6 mths My count went back up .

During thta troublesome cycle where I finally decided to forge ahead and get the hysterectomy done I had afew doses of Tranexamic Acid .

Its supposed to lighten the blood flow and used with caution it shouldnt cause any major problems .

It really did lighten my flow .

My only fears concerning the surgery was that I might wake up during the OP itself . I dont midn staying awake for the whole OP with a spinal or sleeping throughout but dont want to wake up half way .

WhenI woke up post surgery , I was drowsy . I gripped the bed rails and the hand of any passing nurse . It was 30 mins or so before the pain meds took effect .

Ack.

I know what you are going through with he heavy bleeding. I started bleeding the week after Christmas and was passing clots and having gushes. I was so frightened. The DR did a endometrial biopsy and found that I have endometrial hyperplasia(overgrowth of the lining of the uterus) without atypical cells. We already knew that I had a fibroid tumor (13 week size) and have been having ultrasounds to see if it has grown and so far it's stable. The bleeding made my blood count decrease from 11.8 to 8. The Dr has put me on prometrium (natural progesterone) to control the bleeding. Just a few weeks ago, I was really getting antsy because I was still bleeding; not as profusely but enough to know this needs to stop. The Dr said that he wasn't surprised and asked that I give it a while longer to kick in. Sure enough.....The last week my bleeding is almost nonexistent...just a little light pink disharge.

I have had two Dr's to suggest hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries as I am a "prime candidate" but I have chosen to try this first. I'm trying to get through to menopause and all this bleeding with stop.

If next month during ovulation (I'm 50 and still having periods) I start to bleed profusely again, I will have to rethink the hyterectomy because I can't afford to have my hemoglobin drop any further.

I wish you luck and know the anxiety you are feeling. This website has been a Godsend for me and don't know what I would do without it.

Have you had a biopsy or ultrasound? Some of our sisters are having luck taking birth control pills to control the bleeding; Ovron, I think is the name of it. Others may be able to tell you more about it. I'll let you know if my prometrium continues to work.

GOOD LUCK and hang in there.

Thank gosh for HystersisterHOOD!!!!

Frustrated with bleeding

I'm taking Ovcon BC pills. Some months my bleeding from 3 fibroids is controlled. But every 2-3 months I get heavier bleeding than a normal cycle, lasting usually 7-10 days, and it's mid-month when there shouldn't be any bleeding. That's what I'm going through again this month. But the doctor doesn't want to do surgery because she doesn't think the symptoms warrant the risks (I'm overweight).

At age 51 I hope I don't have much longer to go through this. Have already been through 4 years of it. Reaching the end of my rope. Worried that the BC pills are feeding the fibroids and making them worse, but also worried if I stop taking them the bleeding might be even worse. Talk about a catch-22.

Hi Susie, when I read what you wrote it is literally like looking in the mirror! I am 39 and bleed so bad that I cannot wear a tampon, they won't stay. About 5 weeks ago I took my 15 year old to the mall and bled all over the floor. I had to buy new clothes and have a saleswoman let me use a dressing room to clean up. Since then I have had a biopsy (my mom died of cancer in July) and ultrasounds and bloodwork galore! My blood count is almost 8, but I have several large fibroids and they think the hysterectomy is the best bet. I am also a diabetic. Fall'n apart, I'm telling you! anyway after reading about what you went through I am having second thoughts about this hysterectomy...
I never thought I would read a story from anyone going through what I am going through. Now I am more confused then ever, not sure what to do now! I go for final bloodwork tomorrow then a consultation with the dr about the surgery........they are going to give me a surgery date on thursday. I have to tell you, my Dr is the nicest person but I have been there several times and they never even weighed me or asked me what meds I am on.....
please give me some advise. How did you know what to do?

hysterectomy ?

Hey thank you all for replying. And yes i have made a decission to have the hyst. done but IM not really sure at time should I do it or not. I was reading some ofthe things that Susie wrote and it seem like me myself. I was put on some kind of pills to control my bleeding for (10) days and then it was to regulate my period. well to sum it up it made me bleed so bad i had to be put on bed rest for 3 days. and the doctor said i should have a reg. period starting the 10 day. well that did not help at all I've still been bleeding. And now they want me to have and transvasignal Sono as soon as the bleed stop on the 27 of this month that will make me to have bleed 30 days now. So you see why i decided to do it. wish me luck
