New Vaginal Bleeding 8 Months Post-Op

Hi all. I am 35 y.o. female who had a hysterectomy over 8 months ago. I had no bleeding or spotting after surgery but now 8 months later, I have had a week of heavy spotting. I haven't had any sexual activity lately so it isn't that. I still have a cervix and my left ovary. I am wondering what this bleeding is about? What are the possibilities? If this has happened to anyone else or if you have any answers, please respond.

New Vaginal Bleeding 8 Months Post-Op

Hi Julie,

You should call your doctor right away. Any new bleeding - especially 8 months post-op should be reported to your doctor. If the bleeding is bright red or heavy you should go to the ER. Let us know what the doctor has to say and keep us posted on how you are doing.

kind of period

Hello, since my hyst, I have been having spotting every 28 days. According to my Doctor, some Uterin tissue may have been left behind. This tissue may be microscopic in size and will still send the message to the brain to shed the lining of the Uterus which is no longer there. I have yet to find any other woman who has gone through this. Not a single woman i have spoken to ever heard of such a thing. I plan on getting a second oppinion but thought I would find other women who may be experiencing the same. Have you heard of any other woman with spotting long after surgery? Have you spoken to your Doctor?
Thanks
Lois

New Vaginal Bleeding 8 Months Post-Op

I am 4 mos post op TAH and I had some red spotting the other day. It lasted a couple days then turned a brownish color for a couple days then went away. I did call my doctors office and they said I should come in to be seen but my appt. isn't for 3 weeks. I have been told that some light spotting is possible for up to 1 year after surgery. It did freak me out to see it. I wondered where in the world it could be coming from. Take care.

thanks for responses

Thanks for the responses. I did reach my doctor today and he said this definitely was not normal and he was concerned too but didn't give me the list of possible things it could be over the phone. At first, he mentioned something about scar tissue from the surgery but said that would be highly unlikely now 8 months later. He seemed more concerned about it being something with my cervix. He gave me an appt. for a week from today. I'll be sure to share what he has to say. My bleeding has been brownish in color, more than light spotting, more like heavy spotting or like I would have experienced at the first or last day of periods. Thanks again.
