LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
I have a few questions. First one is, how long till you should go back to work? I took off 2 weeks and I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon for the post-op checkup. So I told my boss that I couldn't go back to work till she released me. Now I really think I am not ready to go back yet. I still get very sore and tired when I do too much. To anyone else, it isn't too much though. I mean someone who hasn't had surgery. I do a lot of lifting and standing at my job. My husband wants me to wait till next Monday to go back to work. What if my doctor says that I should try and go back on Wednesday? I am nervous about that. Is it normal to be tired and sore? I went shopping the other day for about 90 minutes and was history the rest of the day.
Another question, when is it okay to start excercising again?
When do you feel normal again? Am I just being a big baby? I know a lot of you out there got Abdominal Hysterectomies, which is much worse. So am I just being a whiner? Should I bite the bullet and just get back to normal?
Is it normal to get real sharp pains in your abdomen every once in a while?
Are stairs okay now? Is driving okay now?
Please help me.
Thanks for letting me vent and ask a few questions.
I am so glad that I found this site. Thanks to everyone.

LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
Just because you didn't have an abdominal insicion, you still have stitches inside of you and have just had major surgery two weeks ago. I had TVH with no other repairs, no complications and my Dr. kept me off for the full six weeks and then when she did send me back to work it was with restrictions. I did In Home Health Care and did some heavy lifting also and none of that was allowed for me for a full three months. I'm not sure what your Dr will do, but make sure that he knows you are required to do alot of lifting at work and maybe he'll keep you off longer. This is major surgery and initial recovery is six to eight weeks, but can take up to a full year to completely heal. You are not being a big baby. It is hard to have surgery and takes alot out of you plus the healing process is hard work for your body. Good luck at your check up.

LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
Debby: I am 10 weeks post-op tomorrow from LAVH/BSO. I went back to work in 4 weeks and the first week worked only 1/2 days. I have a desk job so it wasn't bad at all. Just a little tired probably until the 6th week. I started exercising the fifth week (mall walking). I had some sharp pains probably until the 4th week. I feel great now and do not even feel like I had surgery. Just talk to your doctor about your concerns in going back to work. My doctor told me that most people are off 4 weeks with LVH. Good luck !!!!

LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
Hi there
I have a TVH the same day that you did. I am 2 weeks post op today. I feel pretty good but my mind is ready to do things but my body sometimes is not.
My doctor said that I could drive in two weeks which will be tomorrow. But my husband doesn't want me to just yet. I am tired of feeling like a burden.
Also my doctor was going to allow me to go back to work in 2 weeks (tomorrow) but the week I found out I was having surgery I quit my job. (that's another story) I went back 1 week post op but he told me that he would give me an excuse if I felt that I was not able to go back.
Honestly even though I don't "see" stitches I (we) have still had major surgery and the doc said for me to remember that. It is so important.
I don't when we will be 100% but the doctor I have has pretty much been on the mark. Each week is a little better and right now I feel about 60%.
I tried Walmart and standing alot but I just can't stand up for long periods of time just yet. I stood in choir yesterday, but I was not ready for that. I had to rest for the remainder of the day.
It's cool that we share the same date.
Hope you are feeling even better today......

LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
Thank you so much to everyone who responded to me. I guess I never really thought about the fact that I too have stitches on the inside of me. I guess because you can't see them, I didn't think they were there. I sure hope my doctor will understand that I am not ready to go back to work. It is not like I need a written note from her or anything. I work 32 hours a week, so it is part time and I am not getting paid at all for this time off.
With everyones input I don't feel like such a baby anymore. Thank so much.

LAVH 2 weeks post-op today
I had a LAVH/BSO and was out 4 weeks. I'm a secretary. The 4 weeks were enough as far as the initial healing went, but when I returned I made sure that everyone knew I couldn't lift very much. My co-workers are great, so when I needed to lift paper boxes or other supplies or take something down for Fed-Ex, they were right there willing to help.
The first week was the roughest. I was really dragging by Friday. But I made it and each week has been better and better.
Keep in mind, you only have one chance to heal - do it right.
