On Being Afraid

If any of us goes merrily along without hitting the fear wall now and then, she's either holding back or a real live angel. It's not the fear--it's what we do about it.

s Ellen

And to me, that is the definition of courage. Doing what needs to be done inspite of great fear. There are certainly a bunch of courageous women posting on Cancer Concerns.

I'll second both your posts, Ellen and Karen!

Somewhere along the line, since my surgery in 2000, it occurred to me that we mostly really can't choose what happens to us--but we can choose our response. True happiness in life is far more a decision we make, than a response to our circumstances.

Faith is a great help, of course--I'm grateful for that grace!

Blessings.

I agree so much with everything that's been posted here.

For myself, so much of my "pre-cancer" life was replete with an arrogant expectation of what my life would be like and how it would play out. I never dwelled on what could happen in my life. Well, in addition to getting cancer, I also got a big dose of reality! And reality, as we all know, is a *****.

Ironically, that's been my blessing. In other words, I believe that I (and we) have a special understanding of what "the present" really means. I don't bother taking the future for granted anymore. I concentrate more on today.

Ellen, you're a wonderful woman and I always look forward to hearing from you.

God bless.

Hi Margaret,

You really are inspirational. Your courage is remarkable. I also owe you a great big THANK YOU! I had not found Hyster Sisters. I was feeling very alone in my Gyno cancer. I had found HysterHome on ezboard. One day you posted there about Hyster Sisters. That is how I found this place. Thank You!

I also agree with everything that has been posted here. Until I came across this web site I never had anyone to talk to. My parents are elderly and I don't want to upset them. My daughter is young and doesn't understand, she is 20 and nothing else matters but her. My new husband is having a VERY hard time dealing with my cancer so I find it best to say nothing at all. I continue to have bouts of realizing I have cancer and then becoming unglued. I get scared and felt alone until I found all of you.

Thank you,
Bertha
