wiped out....

Hi all!
I'm almost 7 weeks post op and went back to work today.
I've been feeling GREAT but this afternoon my back and sides hurt like crazy...and I even got weepy! I look in a microscope for work so am sitting most of the time but, I also went up and down a flight of stairs about 3 times. Surely that didn't make me hurt!!!

I'd love ideas from anyone...I really thought I was ok til this...please send advice. I'll only be working 3 days per week for the next 2 weeks but this is miserable!

Thanks,
Sally

I really don't have an answer for you. I just remember that I felt fine while near the end of my medical leave but those first few days back to work were rough. I think we don't realize how much work takes out of us physically and mentally. I came home the first day in pain and crying as well. It did get better for me rather quickly but I did make sure to come straight home after work and rest.

If the pain persists as strong as it was today, you should call your doctor. Maybe you went back to work too soon for the job you do and the stairs you have to climb.

I hope you feel better soon.

wiped out....

I always wear a binder with a diaper used for padding to support my incision site and take ibupropen for inflammation/reduce pain. (Ibupropen is the generic actvie ingredient in Advil and Motrin -- all are over the counter meds.)

Typically, I take 400mg (w/ food) in the morning before the pain intensifies (I also have back pain) and every 4-6 hours as needed throughout the day. Check with your DR to see if he/she will authorize a higher dose. (You may be able to take 600mg 3 or 4 times a day w/ permission.) I also take Darvocet for pain about 2-3 times a day, but not before driving. Be sure to take these meds w/ food to protect your stomach.

If you're able to do mild stretches for your back thoughout the day, this should also help. Try not to sit for too long a period, if possible. I try to stand often to give my back a rest and watch my posture when sitting.

I hope these suggestions help.
