Hernia

I had a hysterectomy/bladder repair March 27, 2003: On November 26, 2003 I had a double hernia repair, the doctor said I got the hernia from the previous surgery. Has this happened to anyone else? Also if so, how long until you get better? What can I do to help ease the pain? It has been almost 3 months and it is still hurting???? Any suggestions are helpful!

Hernia

Incisional hernias are not all that rare and hernias themselves are not rare at all. I do think you should see your doctor if you are experiencing pain this long after surgery. Healing takes time and we are all different but it is unusual to be hurting at this point. Did your doctor use mesh or did he just stitch the tissue? If it is the latter it could be why you are hurting. Have your doctor take a look and see what is going on.

Hernia

Joselle:

The doctor did a mesh repair, and sometimes it still feels like it is pertruding. The pain is bearable, except for when I need to go to the restroom then it is worse. I went to see him and he put me on steriods for 6 days; it helped somewhat, but not a whole lot. They made a 5 inch incision where they did the hernia surgery. Maybe that is why it is still hurting?!?!?!? Who knows? I keep thinking that "tomorrow will be better" like with my hysterectomy. Ofcourse I am feeling so much better as far as that surgery is concern!

Anyway, I do thank you for your for your reply!

Have a wonderful day!

Yikes! I'm so sorry you're still in pain, especially since I face the same surgery in two weeks. Joselle sent me a great message too, and so I realize this doesn't happen to everyone. Please let me know when you find a solution. Hopefully, tomorrow!
