New Pain relief option after hysterectomy...
Well, I'm officially a princess to be in waiting. Monday is the big day. I feel almost awful that I don't have lots of anxieties and fears. My worst fear is just because I don't want to be cut open <lol> period. Been there, done that wasn't crazy about the several previous experiences - none bad, just not something you want if it can be avoided.
I'm here to tell you a bit about a new technique of pain control after surgery. Perhaps something those of you might want to mention to your surgeons when the time comes?
I'm a patient of a very prestegious cancer center about 2 hours away from home. I have an *extremely* bad time with narcotics because they shut down my digestive track immediately and cause unending (seemingly) days of wrenching gut cramps (after my D&C it took a full week for this to stop despite Fleets, stool softeners, etc and all after just 2 doses one of which was given to me in the hospital immediately after the D&C!!!). I mentioned this to the surgeon and he said that his practice no longer uses narcotics of any kind. His practice is to insert 2 drains into the incision and then pump local anesthesia directly to the area. Sounds great to me!!!! Don't know how it will work, but I'm more than willing to be happy without the drugs!
For those of you with allergies to narcotics or other reasons not to use them this could be a god-send! Anyone that wants to pass on information about the specifics to their surgeons, I'll happily give you the name of the practice and the doctor for your surgeon to contact. Just send me a private message please. It wouldn't be fair of me to release this info willy-nilly (it's an extremely large and very busy practice) but I'd be willing for those with reasons to need alternate sources for pain relief.
