im having my last menses
today i just got my period,,,i was cheerfully emailing a friend of mine and how i love to complain about how we send aunt flo to all of us,,,it just hit me,,this is my last period for life.
im having some mixed emotions here,,no regrets on my decision,,but why am i feeling this way? hormones?,,remorse of losing the battle and giving in to this alien (fibroid) in me.
not sure why my hormones are nutty now,,but i always try to give hope and encouragement to everyone around me,,,but for some reason,,,aunt flo is the last reminder of what i will be missing...wiping my tears thru this too and thinking...could be reflecting,,i dont know,,,can someone shed some light as to what this means?
sorry to ramble

im having my last menses
Lena,
I think I know what you are feeling. I missed having my period, and when I see a full moon I still say to myself, "I'd be having a period now." That is how regular I was. I think my monthly period was a primal reminder that I was female, it is one overt difference of how we are different from men, and it made me feel young and vital. Menstrual periods provided a rhythm to my life that I lived with for 32 years - to wake up from surgery and find out it is gone, well...I felt catapulted into old age (I'm only 46). It has been 9 months now since my TAH-BSO, and I think I have gotten past that loss, although I am still adjusting to just "feeling different" about my body since the surgery.
I wish we women would quit blaming hormones for our emotions - I think it diminishes the true emotional impact that surgery and the decision making process leading up to it and the recovery process has on us. It can be heart wrenching - hormones or no hormones.
I think you are feeling some very normal reactions to this. Allow yourself to do some grieving and say goodbye to your period, your uterus in whatever way helps you. Some women have written some very poignant posts about this. You are not alone.

Re: im having my last menses
Hi lena I know exactly how you feel. I had my last period January 7th and it was bittersweet. The emotions was a bit much when I as you realized that would be my last and final period. I couldn't help but think about the very day I began having periods. I put away my dolls and other childhood things and began wearing makeup and nail polish. I also thought about the 3 times my period didn't come and I became a mother to my 3 wonderful children. Lastly...I also thought about going through menopause like my mother and grandmother. I had my surgery and I can honestly say I don't regret it. It is so much better not suffering in pain and heavy bleeding. I now feel like a more stronger and independant woman. Best Wishes to you on a uneventual surgery, speedy recovery, and healthier life.

im having my last menses
Tomorrow would have been the last day of my period even if I wasn't having TAH tomarrow. Thats kind of funny for me to think about it. It really will be the last day of my period and I am SOO thankful for that.

Happy to never have another period!!!
 Lena,
What happened? I thought we were keeping our heads up about this?
Remember that this will all be good. No more pain, no more periods and no more fibroids !!!
Hang in there. It's almost over.
