urethra repair

I will be scheduling my TAH/BSO next Tuesday - the reason we are waiting is because we had to wait for the urologist to schedule at the same time...it appears my urethra "is weak" and needs to be repaired...I usually head for bathroom at least once an hour and have leaking episodes (coughing/sneezing/laughing)...my question is - does this repair make things more complicated - has anyone else had this done at the same time? Thanks for info.

urethra repair

Great question, I need the same thing but it appears I need both urethra and bladder repair, so will anxiously await the input of those that have been there. I still need uro-dynamic testing to determine what will be done to my bladder which is why I am waiting until the 16th for surgery, as they couldn't schedule the test until the 12th. Thanks sisters! I forgot

I forgot to ask, is your urologist going to be involved in the surgery as well?

urologist

It remains to be seen, that will be decided after the uro results. The good news on that is that the resident urologist for the hospital I am having the surgery done in is about the most fabulous dr. on earth. He is my dad's urologist and two years ago after a string of screw ups by the hospital my DF was in, this doc came and in literally saved the day. I was so thrilled to see his name on their staff! My gyn works hand in hand with a femail urologist that assists on the less involved repairs, so she may be the one present. Good luck to you! Leslie

urethra repair

I will also be having my urethra repaired when I have my TAH in April. My gyno is doing both procedures. I am anxious to go back to the doctor to find out what the urethra repair procedure will be. Does anyone know about this?

urethra repair

Hi girls,

I am 9 days post op from an LAVH with urethra repairs. My GYN did the LAVH which took about 3 hours. Then, while my GYN was out telling my DH how thing went, my urologist did the urethra repair. It took about 45 minutes. I had what is called a GYNECARE TVT TENSION-FREE SUPPORT SLING put in. It is a mesh like sling which was put under my urethra and attached to my very lower abdominal area (practically pubic area). This was also done vaginally. In fact, the doctor was glad I was having the LAVH because this procedure is easier done vaginally. I have 2 very tiny 1 stitch incisions where the sling was attached. I used to have to go to the bathroom very frequently, and God forbid if I had to cough or sneeze, I would wet myself. I wore pads even when I wasn't on my period, because I was affraid I would wet myself. I also would wake up at least 3 times a night to go to the bathroom. So far, I have had no accidents, I go to the bathroom every couple of hours and except for my first night home, I have not waken up to go to the bathroom during my sleep. I never realized how much my sleep was affected until I started sleeping all night without waking up and having to go to the bathroom.

I hope you girls have as much success with your surgeries as I have so far had with mine.

Connie
