LAVH coming and tons of questions! HELP

I just found out yesterday I will be having a LAVH (date not yet set, but should be before Christmas). I have a history of severe endo and since I'm 37 and have 2 children (ages 14 & 11), well, let's just say I'm tired of the roller-coaster ride I've been on for the past 5 years! That includes 2 laps, 1 treatment w/Lupron, 1 w/Depo-Provera, BCP's, you name it, I've tried it and I still have pain.

I have read tons of info here, but I was under the impression my doctor would do a TAH BSO - well he shocked me yesterday saying he wants to do a LAVH - Now I'm scared to death. I haven't read that much about LAVH. But I'm worried about losing my cervix. Most of you who've lost the cervix say sex is the same, orgasm is the same - but what about vaginal dryness? Will I always have to use something?!

Also, how long should I expect to be out of work - he said this will be a shorter recovery - I've read the hospital stay should be 1-2 days? is that right? He is removing uterus, ovaries and cervix.

Please help! Thanks!

LAVH coming and tons of questions! HELP

I had a TAH, so I'm afraid I can't give you much information on your procedure or recovery time, but I did have my cervix removed, so maybe I can be of assistance there. I have had no difficulties at all with dryness, and the sex has been great! I think maybe some of the problems some have with dryness may be due to nervousness or fear of discomfort. I wish you luck, and hope your recovery is as uneventful and quick as mine was!

LAVH coming and tons of questions! HELP

I too opted for my cervix to be removed. I had the choice but was told if the cervix remains I run the risk of still having some bleeding (and I would have to kill myself it I went through all this and still bled, lol). Also run the risk of cervical cancer.
I am not afraid of having sex and not being able to "achieve" or vaginal dryness. Even if I have dryness (never a problem before) their are products on the market to take care of it.
