breast!
I was thinking about how much easier my life is going to be when I'm not in pain and bleeding all the time, and then I thought about how I usually use my period to remember when I should do a breast self exam, a week after my first day of bleeding. Now that I won't be having a period any longer, I guess I'll be picking a date in the month and do my breast exam. What I'm trying to get at is, that it's important that we don't forget to do breast self exam now that we haven't the period to remind us! Thanks for listening

Very good point, BAF. And, if I'm not mistaken, that is exactly what is recommended: post-menopausal women should pick a day for breast self-exam.

Baf-
Something I haven't thought about until now. My MIL just lost a breast last November to breast cancer so I am aware of how important self exams are (she didn't do them).
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I do it on the first of the month. Actually, if you can keep track of your cycle (if you have PMS without the M, ovuation pains, etc.) it's best to do it a couple of days after your period would have finished. The texture of your breasts is different at different times in your cycle.
I also have my breasts checked at the women's health clinic by a doctor twice a year, for good measure, and he sends me for a mammio once every two years (I'm 45).

I belong to a large breast cancer survivor support group, and I'd say at least 80% of this group was diagnosed after
finding a lump, bump or dimple themselves. Mammograms are
important, but self exam is the best way-early detection is
the key to survival. If you don't know how, have your doctor
show you, and make sure you do it monthly. Nobody knows your body, or can feel your body, as well as you.
