Lavh

I am scheduled for LAVH on 3/24/04. I am wondering what my time will be in the hospital and recovery time. My Dr. is going to try to leave my left ovary, I have endo. and pelvic congestion. How does LAVH affect your body afterwards.

HI

I had a LAVH on Feb 6th at 730am...out of OR at 850am. Feb 7th the doctor filling for my own (weekend off i assume) came in bright and early and said he would have me home by supper!! I said WHAT!! He later came back and said..'OOH not looking so good, are you thinking of staying the night?' duh, yes... so I stayed for two nights. First night is terrible, everyone keeps coming in to check things and poking and proding...the usual. Second night was better. So to answer your question, I spent two nights there, I would suggest it. When I came home Sunday afternoon, just the car ride wore me out. Fell alseep in a matter of minutes being home.
If you have more questions, let me know. I'll try to help you out, if I can't I'm sure one of our Hyster Sisters will!!

Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery...I hesitate to answer your questions, but I am 12 days post op and wish that I had had more information from a source like this before I had my surgery. I had LAVH also and everything went really well for the most part. I had my surgery in the morning, it took about 2.5 hours. They removed both ovaries. Was in recovery for about 2 hours and then to my room. Was discharged the next day at about 6 pm. The reason for the late discharge was because I couldn't urinate on my own after they took the catheter out...and they were giving me time to try. I couldn't do it...and I just got the catheter out again yesterday and could finally pee on my own. 11 days on a catheter was very, very unsettling to me, but they say it can happen, and I am here to reassure you that your bladder really does heal and it does work again. I hope that doesn't happen to you...but don't be alarmed if it does. I stopped the narcotin pain meds about 5 days ago and switched to motrin. Am still exhausted, but feeling better every day. Now have a bladder infection from the catheter...but I am not complaining about that!! I am walking every day and still sleeping alot and working from home. Will go back to work next week I hope. All the best to you!! Sue

Like she said everyone is different. But my surgery was a little complicated.. I had uncontrollable bleeding which was the cause of the hysterectomy but I have no idea how long i was in surgery but I do know I went in at 7:30am and I didnt get to my room until after dark. I did have a LAVH and had minor complications but I spent a total of 5 days there. The first two I had to keep the catheder because I couldnt pee on my own so they ended up reinserting it. But I do hear that if you dont have any complications the hospital stay can be as little as 24 hours. At the hospital I went to you are required to stay 24 hours for a LAVH and 72 for abdominal.. Good luck I hope you have no complications and are out fast!!! Take care, KRis1975

i Had my LAVH on 2-2-04. I went in at 7:30 a.m. and came home the following day around 2:30 p.m.
I didn't have any complications, I was able to pee after they took the catheter out, it only took me about 30 minutes. The nurse said that was incredibly fast. So i was lucky with that.
The ride home wore me out and I slept a lot the next several days. I was off the narcotics after 7 days and then just took Advil. I am 4 weeks post op and thought I would be feeling better than I am. I was planning on going back to work after 2 weeks, but that didn't happen, then it was going to be yesterday, but that didn't happen. I had to call the doctor today because I am still having a lot of pain and discharge everytime I go out and try to do anything. She is going to see me on Thursday. Right now the plan is to go back to work this coming Monday, but now I am not sure. Everyone keeps telling me to take it easy, you only have 1 chance to recover. That is so true. You will go a little stir crazy, but be careful. Don't do too much. I think I have and now I am paying for it.
Good luck and I hope all goes great for you. Keep us posted.

Lavh

Had LAVH, in at 7am on Monday, out at 7pm on Tuesday. No complications, my late discharge was because of waiting for doctor to come in and write prescriptions and orders. I was in surgery 3 1/2 hours, everyone is different here, depends on how much work has to be done. Everything removed, with hopefully the endo.
