Feeling Blue

Things just haven't worked out the way I thought. In my 20's my focus was career and marriage. My 30's were to be the time for family. Here I am in my 30's, not ready to be done with this phase of my life.

My hysterectomy is scheduled for 3/5. I'm more sad than scared. I know I have much to be grateful for but still wonder what my life would have been like with different choices. I don't know how to explain to my young daughter what is going to happen. Guess I better figure that out pretty quick. Any suggestions?

It seems things work out the way they are suppose to. I'm trying to be strong and keep the faith that everything will be OK. Seems I'm getting more emotional the closer it gets. My pre-op is scheduled for tomorrow.

Feeling Blue

Hello Katie Anne. I too am going in on 3-5 and am more sad than scared. I am 35 years old and I never thought I would see this day at such a "young age". It is a life altering decision that we have made and it makes me sad to think that it has come to this.

I also have a 4 year old daughter. I have explained to her the best I can what mommy will be going through, but finding the right words to say to such a small soul is hard. I pray that my daughter does not have to go through this.

I know that this decision I have made will benefit me in the long run. No more painful days that makes me want to stay in bed and days that I cannot tolerate the slightest things. I look forward to being ME again.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Feeling Blue

I totally understand your feelings...I was there just under a month ago. I turned 33 in August, had my 3rd child in December, had a tubaligation in January, then had a TAH with my right ovary removed as well. My oldest daughter is 13, so it was very easy to explain to her what was going to happen. Of course, she's lived with me and my pain forever it seems. She had to be the big girl and take care of everyone when I was in so much pain. I'm very happy with the decision I made. I know in the long run my family will be happier too. And my poor daughter can start being a child again. I think all of my problems forced her to grow up very quickly.

The surgery isn't a piece of cake, but every day after leads to a better future. I'm 3 weeks post-op. Still tired, but I can honestly say that I'm not in near as much pain as I use to be, if that makes any sense...I think it boils down to I know there is an end in sight, where as before I didn't think it would ever end.

I pray that your surgeries go well and you have a quick recovery. Do be sure to get plenty of help and rest and take it very easy...that is the best advice I can give....listen to your body.

Good luck!

Feeling Blue

I think kids of 4 understand the concept of boo-boos pretty well. How you can have one and it will get better and not die. I will tell my youngest 2 that I have a boo boo inside my tummy and the Dr will help me feel better at the hospital. You don't need to go into much detail, the important thing to let them know is that you are spending the night/s and WILL get better. Explain that after you rest a while, you are going to be able to do many more things than before with them. Maybe get some library books before you go and say that mommy will have time to read a LOT of stories after she rests a day or so. Maybe ask her to be your special helper nurse, little girls LOVE to help at this age! I wish you both a very speedy recovery, please try not to feel too sad!
