Bad hospital stay

after reading some of your posts i feel the need to chime in. I too had a horrible stay when I landed in the hospital due to an infection resulting from a simple lap last august. My roomate was a drug user, who smoked in the bathroom acted crazy and was constantly yelling at her boyfriend. It was miserable, and not condusive to the healing process. My hyst was on Jan 12 2004. In pre-op I was very specific that if this happened again I would leave the hospital ready or not. Ladies, write letters to hospital administration. Believe it or not they take them very seriously and do act on them. I am a nurse of 16 years and believe me we always heard when there were neg. letters sent. Nurses yes do have a difficult job, but they chose this and are being paid for it, if its too stressful they need to choose another profession. Stay well all and god bless. baily

I hear you.

My story is so long, but I just wanted to let you know that I had the hospital stay from hell. What even happened to compassion? I felt like I was a big bother and was left like a dog. It is really scary how people treat other people.

Bad hospital stay

from nurse to pt. I am sorry to hear you too had a bad experiance. I may be a nurse, but have many times been a pt. i cant stress enough to all you unhappy ladies that recieived poor care, voice your concerns in writing!!!!! The administrators and directors need to be aware of these things. As a nurse my attitude always has been, putting muself in the pts place and trying to be aware of their needs. i agree nurses are overworked and cutbacks have taken place, but it does not excuse the fact that pts needs come first. How would they like it if their relative was poorly cared for, they wouldnt!!!!!!!!!! A hysteresctomy is a very emotional experiance and a physically demanding recovery. It bothers me to hear that the profession is going down hill. I have stayed home now for a year and a half, to stay with my children, now 1 and 3. I guess now I'm glad. Hope you all get your pens out and write write write, it is your right as a pt. Just wanted to let you know there are nurses who care, I am one of them. baily

Bad hospital stay

I'm in nursing administration and I would concur that all of you who have had bad experiences need to make your concerns known. Complain while you're in there. Follow up with a letter to the CEO of the hospital. It will be investigated. If really terrible things happen there are other accrediting bodies that can be notified but you will usually get some satisfaction working with the administration of the facility.

On the other side, if you have a particularly good experience, please let the staff and management know about that too. Nurses and other caregivers live for that type of recognition and acknowledgement.
