Back from the Castle

Hi Fellow Sisters,
I'm back four days after surgery. Doc said things went well, I had the uterus removed, kept ovaries and cervix. :-)
The pain was bad coming out of o.r., but once under control I did ok. They had me on morphine until Sat., now I'm on lortab (pill form). I still haven't had a bm, but I know it's brewing...
My advice, walk and bring your own stool softeners. The nurses had me "dangling" off the bed the first night and then walking the morning after. It wasn't bad once I pressed the morphine pump.
Thank you to all who wished me well. I wish the best of luck to all that still are waiting to go and to those of you who have returned and are recovering.

Big hugs.

Re: Back from the Castle

I'm glad to hear you're home, now be good and follow the rules: rest, take lots of little walks around the house, and drink plenty of water and juice. And when you're up to it we'll look for your castle story on the "Princesses Tell Their Stories" forum. If you have any questions about your recovery the PostOp forum is waiting for you!

NO, don't take your own OTC meds to the hospital, no matter how benign they seem. Your caregivers in the hospital are responsible for your health and well being. Even your regular prescription meds need to be administered by them. There is no way of knowing how something may react with another med, and you could unknowingly cause yourself serious complications. And it could be made even worse, it you were not able to tell them what you took, they wouldn't know what was wrong.

When in the hospital leave the medicating to the people who are paid to do it.

Best wishes!

Glad to hear you're up and about. I'm reading so many posts about the BM issue that I'm planning for oatmeal and prune juice.

OTC Medication

Mlweeman,
You're absolutely right, don't take your stool softeners to the hospital unless you've cleared it beforehand with your doc. My doc advised me to bring them, (I didn't mention that in my last post), but I had forgotten to bring it along. During your check in before surgery, your nurse will ask you if you have any meds with you or if you've taken anything before going into the hospital, always be honest with them.

Thank you for clarifying that for me, Mary Lou. :-)

Back from the Castle

Glad that you are home from the castle. We have the same surgery date. I came home 3/14/04. The first night was rough with gas pains. I was up every two hours. Yesterday was better I am trying to eat more healthier. I go WEd. to get the staples and drain out. Just take it easy and hope to hear from you

I have steri strips, no staples (happy about that). Are you feeling ok today? Last night I woke with feeling awful, I told my husband that I thought I was having a heart attack, luckily, I wasn't. Don't know what happened, it passed quickly. I'm laying around today already bored and nauseous but ok with pain.
I hope things go well for you. Good luck getting those staples out.
