accidental bladder cut/post catheter pain

Has anyone else had their bladder cut open by accident during their hyst? They stitched together two of the three layers and the x-rays after showed no leakage so I should be ok, but. I just took the catheter out that they sent me home with and am in agonizing pain after urinating when my bladder gets a little full. It's like someone poured acid in my abdomen for a few minutes afterwards. Anyone else had this? How long did it last? I set the alarm for every two hours at night to get up and go so my bladder doesn't get full, but it is not making me very popular in the household. Any suggestions?

Did they give you an antispasmodic and pyridine to take at home? when i went home with a catheter following my bladder repair, that's what Rx's i had. it helped some.....
mostly it took about a week for it not to hurt/feel weird when peeing.

as always, check with your dr if you are in doubt.

accidental bladder cut/post catheter pain

My bladder was cut during surgery too. I had an indwelling catheter for 4 days post-op. My DR prescribed Pyridium to ease the bladder spasms that I was experiencing while the catheter was in and continued the medication for 3 weeks after it was removed. The first week was the worst as it felt like my bladder was turning inside out each time I went to the BR. I found that drinking a lot of water helped to keep the urine more dilute which decreased the intensity of the spasms. If I didn't drink, I had much more discomfort. The bladder spasms decreased over the next 4 weeks and were finally gone completely at 6 weeks post-op. My DR told me it can take 3-4 months for them to go away.

Last Friday I had emergency surgery for a torn vaginal cuff. They examined the bladder and had to move it around to make sure everything was okay. I had another catheter post-op, but only for a day this time. I am having bladder spasms again, but I am so used to having them I am not allowing them to rule my life anymore.

The pyridium and the increased water intake were the most help. Call your DR to ask for a prescription for something like Pyridium or Detrol. It will not make them go away completely, but it will make them more tolerable.

Hope you are feeling better soon! God bless!

Yes, during my hyst in 2002, my bladder was 'nicked' and had to have the cath for a week after I got home.
Then after the cath was out, it hurt to pee for a long time. Several months, it was very uncomfortable to need to go. But eventually it goes away.
