Water retention after hysterectomy?

I had a partial vaginal hysterectomy in November and for the past few months my hands seem to swell and I seem to be retaining water. It almost feels like I'm going through PMS!? I chalked it up to hormones but I called my doctor and they said it's not related and I should call my primary care dr?! I'm kinda thinking the nurse just didn't know what she's talking about?! There is another woman in my office that has been having the same symptoms a few months after her hysterectomy.
Anyone experience this? Anything I can do? I'm drinking tons of water and taking water pills and nothing is helping! Please help! Thanks!

Water retention after hysterectomy?

Hi Deaner and welcome!

Sometimes various HRT's can have an effect of water retention. It looks like you kept your ovaries, so I'm thinking that you are not taking HRT?

Whatever the reason, I think that your GYN gave you sound advice in telling you to contact your PCP. Water retention can be a signal of a number of different medical conditions, and it's really important to find the cause. It's easy to assume that a new condition must be associated with a hyst, especially when it was so recent. And though it may somehow be related, it's entirely possible that there is no correlation at all. You owe it to yourself to seek medical attention to be on the safe side.

Best wishes and s
