surgery choices

my doctor suggested i have my hysterectomyby laporascopy but do you think it is stupid for me to want it abdominally - here's why- i have endo and my surgery is scheduled for may 12 - i would feel more comfortable if he just opened me up "like a book" and got the whole picture instead of manuevering around with the laporascope - i already have bladder problems and "not that i don't trust him" i would feel more secure if he had the whole picture rather than a tv screen to perform the surgery - does this sound silly? i'm really scared about the whole thing but if i have to have it done i'd rather have a longer recovery time than have a risk of enduring another surgery due to something going wrong - i'm 34 - i also feel that everything medical related is so rush rush nowadays - the extra day or so in the hospital may be better than being rushed out the door. please give me some opinions!!
thanks

Hi Jillyn

Discuss it with your DR, and if you're still not comfortable get a second or third opinion. In most cases surgery isn't urgent, and it's a lot better to be as sure as you can about the surgery and the type of procedure, than to have the what if's later, especially if you have some recurrent issues.

You may want to check out the Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives Board (click here) at the top there is a great list with links to all kinds of alternatives.

Also please be sure to read the info New Here? which can also be accessed from the top of every screen, for important information to help you get the most out of this site.

Read and research as much as possible to help you, in conjunction with your DR, make the best decisions for you.

Best wishes.

Hi

As the previous sister said - talk to your DR about your fears, etc. And if necessary, get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

Your DR may have a very good reason for wanting to do it one way rather then another.

Bottom line: talk to DR, discuss everything with her/him!
