Hematoma under incision?

I had a BSO last Tuesday. I've had this extra pain on my right side of my stomach since the surgery. I asked the DR about it Monday when I had my staples removed and he pushed around on it and said that it could be fluid under the skin, i.e. a hematoma, and I whould be fine. But for the past two days it really hurts. It's bulging out, enough so that you can tell it's there by looking at it. And it's a hard lump when felt of. It's starting to worry me. I know it takes time for these things to go away on their own, but still am worried about it. I wouldn't have as much pain now if that weren't there.
Has anyone else had this problem? And should I be worried about it?

Hematoma under incision?

Hi:

I am 3 months post op froma TAH=BSO. When I was about 10 days post op I started having excrutiating pain on my right side. It got to the point I could hardly walk. To make a long story short I had 2 Cat Scans and my Dr. told me I had a slight infection and a rather large hematoma was under my incision and felt hard when I pressed on it. The infection went away but the hematoma and the pain lasted about 8-10 days. Each day the pain subsided a little. If it is a Hematoma it will get better over time. I hope you feel better soon, I remember thinking the pain would never go away, but it does. Good luck to you.

Hematoma under incision?

Thanks for the reply. I had a large, bleeding hematoma with my TVH; that was actually more painfull than this one. It pushed on my diaphram when I laid down, so I couldn't breathe.
The pain seems to get a little less every day, so hopefully it will go away soon.

Hematoma under incision?

Hi:

I am so sorry to hear you have a hematoma, I know how bad it hurts. Your right it does get a little better every day but it seems like an eternity. I think that was definitely the worst part of my surgery. It took a good week to 10 days for the pain to completely disappear. Hang in there, it does get better.

Hopefully the rest of your recovery will be a breeze.

Hugs,

Breja
