5 day long period after having a hysterectomy

I,m sorry, but i,m so annoyed, i have to tll u all about wats been happening to me since monday. I started bleeding monday morning, I had a really sore back sunday night and went for awalk to ease it whicj it did, wen i got up mon morning i was bleedin, i was,nt overly cncerned as my consultant had told me because i had kept my cervix i may have a spot bled every month, a spot bleed not a five day long period with mestrual cramps etc.

Anyway as the days have gone by, i have foned the doctor each day as the bleed has got heavier, they still maintain, it is a period, tonighti foned again asi passed a small clot, i have to go see my doctor tomorrow, but she stil thinks it,s a period.

Well i,m so mad, i took the advice of my surgeon, I said to her, i don,t want to bleed again, she said a spot bleed, this is 5 days and it has,nt stoppd yet.

I cannot go through this hysterectomy and still hae a 5 day or more period every month, wa was the point in the op.

sorry but i,m not over my op yet but am having a horrible period too :0(.

Anyone else got this problem, plz let me know, thanks for listening

5 day long period after having a hysterectomy

Hi Sal45,
I also kept my cervix, and have had a really small amount of blood when I should be having a period. I do not need to wear a pad, and it is literally two or three times on wiping, and that is all. I think you are right to call your doctor, particularly if you are bleeding enough to wear a pad.
Hope this helps

5 day long period after having a hysterectomy

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems. When I first discussed with my doctor keeping my cervix, that is one of the "cons" that he advised me about. He said that it is possible to leave a portion of the uterus when attempting to leave the cervix and because of that he said I may still have the bleeding, pain, etc. I ended up not having a choice and my cervix was also removed during the surgery. The cervix is the opening of the uterus and not a separate organ and it is apparently very common for a portion of the uterus to be left behind after hysterectomy if the cervix is not also removed.

I hope your doctor is able to help you. Please give us an update after you speak with your doctor as I am sure there are many others who are experiencing the same thing and feeling the same frustrations.

Take care!

5 day long period after having a hysterectomy

Hi Boleigh

Yes i too was told about the uterous being attached and she may leave some behind and that i might get a spot bleed, she said Spot, i might not even notice it, she did,nt say 5 day period with all the trimmings, or i would have opted for the removal of my cervix, ive bled enough, don,t want no more, i have cried all day because of this, can tell it,s period lol all the emotional stuff with it, up till monday thankfully my hormones were fine, the thought of these long bleeds again every month after havin the op is awful, i,ll let u know wat my doc says, but i think they should inform u more rather than let u think the wrong thing. take care I hope ur recovering well

When you see your doctor, ask her if she attempted to cauterize any endometrial tissue that may have been left behind. This is what my doc did, and if it is done, it usually prevents mini-periods.

I kept my cervix, and as of 19 weeks post-op, I have not had any bleeding.

Bless your heart - I can't imagine going through the emotional turmoil that goes along with the surgery and having it feel like it was for nothing. I agree that the doctor's should better inform us. In fact, I have learned more from this site than I have from my doctor. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with my doctor but there have been so many questions and things that I have felt and experienced post op that, without this site, would have scared me to death. What gets me is how guilty I feel for wanting to call my doctor's office with a question, like I'm being a hypochondriac or something. I had my four week follow-up on Monday and didn't ask half the questions I wanted to because I felt that he would think I was being hysterical. It took me so long to find a doctor to take me seriously and not dismiss me or my symptoms that it's made me a little gun shy about pushing it.

Good luck tomorrow, I'll keep you in my thoughts!

5 day long period after having a hysterectomy

Thanks for your thoughts Boleigh, i know wat u mean, ive learnt so much from this site, infact if i,d av found this site before my op i would not have had it, I went to my gyn with a mid month bleed, wat ive got now is worse than wat i had, u live and learn don,t u, theres one thing though, ive com this far and if it,s a choice between bleeds and havin my cervix removed i think i,ll have it removed, or this op will av been for nothing, cos i,m no better off this way, thanks again
