anybody else cancelled surgery!

Has anyone else out there is hysterville cancelled surgery? The prometrium is working, hopefully and I just don't have a peace about going through with this surgery. I feel like a wuss!! I felt so good when I called the surgical nurse and cancelled this morning; like something had been lifted off of my back.

I go for a another biopsy in June and we'll see how the hyperplasia is doing. A LAVH/BSO may be in my future but now today.

Hope I'm doing the right thing. What do you think? Shouldn't I be sure before I have this surgery?

I wish I had more resolve like the rest of you that go ahead and bite the bullet. After I suffer long enough, I am sure that I will.

Bleeding since December 30th; prometrium since Jan 21st; finally quit bleeding 15 days ago and praying my next period is somewhat normal. (Keep me in your prayers!)

Cindy from Alabama (What do you think?)

anybody else cancelled surgery!

Hi Cindy

You most certainly do need to be sure before you have surgery. You can't undo it once it's done and it is major surgery and not to be undertaken lightly.

You certainly aren't a wuss either. The time isn't right for you to have surgery at the moment, and hopefully it won't ever come to that. From what you say you made the right decision for you at this time.

I put off my surgery for as long as I could, but there came a point when I realised my quality of life just wasn't as it should be. That's when I knew I was ready for surgery.

Hopefully your bleeding will be under control now and you won't have to make a decision to have surgery, but if not, you always have that option open to you.

All the very best.

anybody else cancelled surgery!

I cancelled my Uterine Fibroid Embolization scheduled for Monday the 29th, and opted for the TAH instead. Like you, I just didn't feel "right" about it. I wasn't afraid, (I probably WILL be!) I just want to make sure this is taken care of for good! I won't be able to have surgery until August.

Don't worry, I'm sure your Dr. gave you options--It's elective for a reason. If & when the time is right, you'll know it! Good luck to you in your decision... I shed quite a few tears over the stress of this procedure (and I'm not normally teary) because of the urgency of the decision. But I feel much better now that my decision is made!

when it's time, it's time

I was scheduled for a TAH on 3/18 and cancelled on 3/1 due to
a) I'm having insurance hassles and want to be sure everything's cool before a major surgery.

b) I also went for a 2nd opinion on 3/8..I'm 49, 10-week uterus, 5 or 6 fibroids, the largest is 3cm. 2nd opin gyn was more informative than my main gyn, he spent 1 1/2 hrs. with me. My situ is "not medically necessary" but a decision re quality of life (planning around periods, having a few heavy, clotty days, etc.)..

I sure do know how good it feels after making the cancellation call, a big sigh of relief.
It's amazing how the stress builds up, doesn't it?
And I was so prepared, thanks to this site.

My situation may be an eventuality someday...I've been taking iron, B-complex and CO Q10 since Jan. & my wellbeing is very well. I'm all prepared for if and when.............

take care,
Nancym

Yup, I sure did...when I lost confidence in my dr.....

It's a very long story that I'm sure I've posted in detail elsewhere, but I did have a surgery date. The dr. I'd consulted with is located on the west coast - my internist here in the NYC area had sent me to her b/c she believes this woman is the most trustworthy surgeon in the US. I was examined and advised that a hyst was the only way to go. The dr. was very optimistic about having a good outcome with me, she said, smiling ear to ear. She then advised me to go through several months of physical therapy before scheduling the operation, "to loosen things up."

I complied, but pt was a torment that only made my pain worse. During the course of the therapy, I scheduled the surgery.
Once I was done with pt, the therapists sent a report to the dr. and to me, saying it had been unsuccessful and explaining the reasons (mostly blaming me and my pain management dr. for its failure). I tried to contact the dr. to discuss it, but she would speak to me only through her nurse-practitioner. The nurse told me that the dr. still wanted to do the surgery, but that I should be prepared for a very long and difficult recovery. I insisted on speaking to the dr., but the nurse just laughed lightly and said, "No-o!" Finding the situation very strange, I cancelled the surgery. No way was I going to let someone operate on me when she wasn't willing even to explain her change of opinion and prognosis. I believe that trusting your surgeon is critical.

follow what your body tells you

Hi Susie,
Yes, I think you did the right thing! I too am trying to doge the surgery bullet (for now, anyway) with prometrium to treat the hyperplasia.

Have you considered having a D&C instead of just a biopsy? I say this because I had a clear uterine biopsy, but a D&C showed complex hyperplasia with atypia. Weird, huh?

I also just tried to put off my second D&C. Somehow, my body was telling me to wait one more week. I just wanted to be sure that there would be enough endo lining to sample...I wanted no part of any "inconclusive" readings.

Well, as it turns out, I could not put off the procedure due to the docs being out for a long Easter weekend...The reading came back "hyperplasia still questionable" and was sent off for a second opinion.

I should have trusted what my body was telling me...I am so glad you are trusting yours.

Give those hormones a chance to do their job and knock out that bad stuff.

anybody else cancelled surgery!

I am seriously thinking about cancelling mine. I have late stage 3 endo. But the pain is bearable most of the time. Sometimes it gets tough, but not all the time. I do have endo pain and symptoms everyday, but I think I can deal with it for a while. My surgery is supposed to be on the 22nd. I feel like crying all of the time. Not just because of the surgery, but we may be moving out of state this summer. So I am trying to do my spring cleaning along with painting and stuff in case we list our home. Cause if I have surgery I can't paint for a few weeks. I feel overwhelmed. And now my mom has bought a plane ticket to come out here and help me after surgery. I don't know what to do. I feel depressed. Is this normal in any way???
