what else can cause a discharge???

i have had a discharge since my surgery and was treated with silver nitrate way too many times for granulation with little to no change. my doctor also put me on metrogel several different times for bacterial vaginosis. during the last visit he could find no more granulation, so he put me on flagyl to try and treat the discharge thinking it could still be an infection. i've been on this med for 5 of my 7 days and still no change.

what else could be causing the discharge. my doctor said he has never experience any one with such a problem before. has anyone had this problem? what else can i ask for him to do or try?

Hi,

I am sorry you are having discharge problems. I had a yeast infection and a bacterial infection after my surgery, plus treated for granulation 3 times. I haven't had any problem since.

Does it have an odor or not normal consistency? Your body may have a discharge for a little while till it heals more.

Here is a link I found with types of vaginal problems.

I hope this may help some.

Have you tried to eat yogurt to help put back the healthy bacteria that the area may need?

I'm having issues also and wonder what this is, maybe it's an Ohio thing. Don't know what your discharge looks like. Mine is brownish like old blood, but I'm 9 weeks post op now. So I would think that would be gone by now. I also have had a three silver nitrate treatments, so maybe that has something to do with it. I've taken Flagyl before, a long time ago and if I'm remembering right, I didn't really have much relief until after medication was completed.

Can someone tell me what the silver nitrate treatment is and what it is for? I went in for my 4 week post op and I heard the Dr. tell the nurse he needed the nitrate and I didn't even think about it until I read these posts. Every since my Dr. did that I have been having some discharge also, it started out brown but now it is just clear and that was two weeks ago.

Ringfinger - I've only had a bacterial infection twice, each time was treated with flagyl and both times developed a yeast infection from the flagyl. I originally thought that the 1st infection hadn't gone away but then learned the bacterial infection was gone but I needed treatment for the yeast. I also found it was best to have the doctor have lab work done because I have had them tell me I was fine when my lab results came back positive for an infection. If you continue treating a yeast infection as if it were a bacterial it will only get worse.

The silver nitrate cauterizes tissues on the vaginal cuff that is not healing properly. I had three treatments and had mild cramping the first evening after the treatment, then a silvery brownish discharge for 2 - 3 days afterwards. After the 3rd treatment (just had a tiny spot of granulation left) I haven't had any more discharge.
