Incision Separation due to Hematoma

On 10/17 I had a TAH. Surgery went well. However, in the
hospital I complained of additional swelling and brusing
which was from side to side. I was post anemia treated
and feel this had an effect of the bruising site. The
side hematoma (tennis ball size) was on the right side and
now is apparent at the incision line. The tension from the
hematoma is pulling at the incision site (ouch). I have
had to have extended Percocet for prn pain. The 1/2 inch
separation pull hurts and I don't go back until next Wed.

Am I being to nice? Should I be concerned. No seepage
but hard, hard swelling and I can see unequal protrusions
on both sides of the incision. I don't like this look
at all as I am petite and this is pretty scary. I am so sore that if anyone bumped me I would cry in pain.

Suggestions of how to handle this will be appreciated.

Incision Separation due to Hematoma

I would not wait until Wed. and would call your Dr. today. I had a hematoma the day after surgery (severe pain, tender to the touch, etc.) and started to bleed through the incision site. Since it was a fresh incision, the Dr. opened it up and cleaned it out. It bleed lightly for about 2 weeks through a 1 inch opening, and then stopped and healed. I think it is looking for a place to drain so maybe the Dr. can help. LMK how it works out.

I don't know if you would call this a hemotoma but I picked up something i shouldnt my 2nd week post op and i had a lump on my incision site that felt like a knot and hurt very badly. Luckily, I didn't do any harm, and it wasn't infected but the doctor put me on Ceftin just to make sure. It did hurt enough to make me I had to learn to make sure I didn't overdo. You should get it checked out if it is red and have drainage or it looks infected. Please take care of yourself. We only have one chance to heal right.

Incision Separation due to Hematoma

I had a hematoma the size of a tennis ball at 3 weeks post-op. The doc drained it vaginally (due to its location). There was no discussion of options... it was just done. It was a relief to have the pressure gone & get back on the road to recovery.

Pls call your doctor... Don't worry about bugging him. It's his job to make sure you are healing well.

Sending cyberhugs,
