Vag Hyster, A&P Repair, Bladder Repair all..April 8,2004

Hi This is my first post...

I am 45 y/o and have had 7 children. I will be having a A&P repair to make things tighter, a Vaginal Hysterectomy, because he is there and I have a "little" prolapse...or "prolapse potential.and a bladder repair by a Urologist because I have been leaking urine and wearing a pad for years.

SOOO...I am finally having it done....all of it.

I have never ever had surgery and am a very strong healthy woman.

I was concerned about the loss of libido. My cervix will be removed. I have been married 22 yrs and have a very active sex life, which has really skyrocketed after age 40ish.??

I have a 4 month old baby right now.

I would appreciate any words of encouragement or advice in these areas.
Please!!! Thanks Looking forward to being here.

Hello
I just had a TVH and a posterior repair on 12/1/03. I had the posterior repair to make things tighter too. I had two large babies.
The hysterectomy was a breeze. The repair was VERY painful.
I can honestly say that it works. Great!!!! It takes some time to heal, but once it heals it is fine. I also had my cervix removed too. We don't have problems from that.
I don't have a loss of libido. I am 31 and seem to be doing fine. I hope you will do great as well.
Just get plenty of rest and take it easy. Do just what your Dr tells you to do and you should do just fine.
Take care.

I just had the same surgery that you are going to have, I am 2 weeks post-op. Did your dr.tell you that you will have lifetime lifiting restrictions because of the bladder repair? I hope you have lots of help because ,currently I have a 4 pound lifting restriction and it will be 6 months before all internal stitches are healed.
these are some of the questions that you should definitely ask about before you have the surgery. I used a pessary for about 5 months prior to having the surgery. My children are grown and I was already 2 years post-menopausal. As far as the surgery end of this, it was very easy. I had the surgery on a monday and could have come home Tuesday evening but opted to stay until Wednesday noon. I find the hardest part of this is behaving myself and not lifting,or tugging on anything.

Thank You for your comments.....Wow this is neat...it was my first post!!

Well about the lifting...my baby is 4 months old and 16 lbs and getting bigger and bigger. I am sure I will have to lift her plenty. There is just no way around this.

The Urologist knows I have a newborn and he did not say anything. I am having the bladder repair where they put a few sutures in the neck of your bladder as opposed to the bladder sling. Which one did you have? This whole thing really centered around the urine leakage.

This procedure was offered to me 2 yrs ago, but I hesitated...and I got pregnant. Which is great. My last chance at having a baby. She is 9.5 yrs younger than the rest of the gang of 6. I feel very blessed to have her.

Scared to hear the A&P repair is painful. I will have to prepare for that!! The doctor said I would have morphine. My mom will come to help me with the rest of my family and all my chores.

I have the mesh tape,(tvt). maybe it will be easier for you,but I would take it as easy as possible for as long as possible because it will take 6 months for those stitches to heal.
What a blessing to have a little one after all those years, I had my daughter 5 years after the births of my sons, and I still remember how relaxed I was caring for her and how much fun she was. Let the other children carry her about for you. Hopefully one of your other six is a devoted daughter? not that sons' can't help but girls seem to be a bit more on the tender side. Thank goodness your mom will also be there.
I barely got out of bed this morning and am heading back there soon.
