Back from the castle
Hello everyone. I made it back from the castle. Had my surgery 10-30 and got to come home 11-1. Just haven't felt like sitting in front of the computer for very long at a time so haven't posted yet. I'm feeling pretty good, considering. They did a LAVH, and were able to leave my ovaries. I got lucky, they didn't have to go thru my abdomen. I'm pretty sore getting around, and can't stay in one position for very long. I've been home for 2 days and am already bored. The ride home was really rough, even though my hubby tried to go easy, so I haven't gotten the nerve to have him take me anywhere. Thanks to everyone for the support and advice. And good luck to those of you going to the castle. I don't regret it a bit..... well, almost. I was standing outside the hospital smoking when they were taking a new baby home, which was a little bit of a downer, but I'm not in as much pain now as I was before the surgery, so it was definitely worth it. I will try to get back on soon.
Thanks again,
Cindi LAVH 10-30-00

Back from the castle
It is comforting to hear good reports back from those who have had their surgery. I am having a TVH on Dec. 5th. I don't have too far to go (just about a 10 minute ride from our house to the hospital) so I am very lucky not to have a long car ride home. I've heard a pillow in the car is a good idea-- hold it on your tummy on the way home.
Good luck with your recovery, Cindi, and good luck on the 14th, Tander.
I am starting to get nervous-- I seem to be pretty good all day, but then about 2 or 3 in the morning I wake up and start to think... This waiting is really no fun.

Pillows
As they say the waiting really is the worst part. The recovery seems kind of slow right now, to me, but I'm used to being able to jump up and do whatever I want, whenever I want. I'm not one to stay still for very long. I have 4 boys and manage a restaurant, so you can imagine how much free time I'm used to having. I see something that needs done, and I just want to do it. But, fair warning to those of you who are like that, it just don't happen a couple of days post op. I'm figuring closer to a week, lol. You might want to take 2 pillows. One for your belly, and one for your bottom. Especially if you're having the VH. But mine was made worse by the male volunteer who wheeled me out of the hospital. It seemed like he hit every bump as fast as he could, so I was sore by the time I got to the van. Definitely take at least one pillow. I wish I would have. Good luck to you all and I hope everything goes well. I'll be thinking of you. Hehe I can't do a whole lot else right now.
Love and hugs,
Cindi

Back from the castle
Speaking of the wheelchair thing, I noticed last year when I had a laparoscopy and some tenderness afterwards that the wheelchair ride to the car when discharged was rough. The funny thing was, at the time I realized that there were all kinds of tiled floor areas, and I felt every little ridge in them. It's strange what you notice when it counts!!
I am having a TVH due to fibroids 12/26, and a friend suggested what was posted here, that not only would a pillow for your tummy feel good, but one for your butt. She said she rode home alittle "tilted" onto her left hip, allowing her arms to help lift her bottom up by leaning on the center arm rest whenever there was a bumpy spot. She said the pillow under the raised section of her butt was the best thing she could have done. She said she used the pillows that way at home, also, and it felt pretty good.
I'm making notes of all these good hints!!

WELCOME HOME
HARDY GIRL, I ALSO HAD MY SURGERY ON MON 10/30/00 AND WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN LAVH/BSO TURNED INTO A ABDOMINAL HYSTERSCTOMY. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE! MY WONDERFUL DR FOUND SOME UNEXPECTED SURPRISES THAT WERE WORRRISOME THAT HE HAD TO BIOPSY ON THE SPOT. AMONG THE MULTIPLE INTRAMURAL FIBROIDS THERE WAS THE GRAPEFRUIT SIZED MYOMA WEDGED IN MY COLON UNDER MY UTERUS THAT WAS NOT PICKED UP ON CT SCAN OR ULTRASOUND ALONG WITH SOME ABNORMAL LOOKING SPOTS ON MY COLON. ALL CAN BACK BENIGN BUT AM WAITING FOR THE FINAL REPORT. CONSIDERING ALL OF THIS I CAME HOME YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) ONLY USED THE MORIPHINE PUMP FOR 24 HRS THEN TOOK SHOTS OF DEMEROL. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN ON A CAR TRIP TODAY TO THE STORE BUT GOT TIRED VERY QUICKLY. AM TAKING TORODOL PILLS FOR PAIN BUT NOT REALLY IN PAIN. I WOULD SAY IT IS MORE DISCOMFORT. MY ENERGY IS GOOD AS ARE MY SPIRITS. ALL IN ALL IT WAS ONE OF THE BETTER DECISIONS THAT IVE MADE AND AM HAPPY THE WAITING IS OVER BECAUSE IT WAS BY FAR THE WORST PART OF ALL. I HOPE YOU ARE FEELING WELL AND HAVE A SPEEDYRECOVERY. AMY
