6 weeks post-op issues
I found this site just by searching for hysterectomy recovery. I wish I had known of it prior to my surgery (date 3/23/04).
I am due to go back to work next week on the 6th. I work at a computer most of the day an am not sure how things will be for me. Will meet with my doctor the day before I go back to work.
I am sort of frustrated in that I still have pain, unable to lift my self from a seated position without pulling up on something -- also the bathtub. Still rolling on my side to get out of bed too.
Not asking for medical advice, just want to hear from some of you who had surgery (TAH) around the same time frame. I expected to be like my old self again.
I have to confess that I did not take it easy as advised by several other women. I'm one of those perfectionist about my house and couldn't stand some things to go undone. Not to mention the lack of the kind of support I expected from my family.
Thanks for reading. It is good to know that you are here.

6 weeks post-op issues
Welcome to HysterSisters! I'm glad you found us. This site is a great source of support.
The initial recovery period is 6-8 weeks. It can often take many months to be completely healed. The stitches typically begin to dissolve at 2-4 weeks post-op. If your surgery was 3/23/04 and you are only 1 week post-op you are very early in your recovery so your body still has plenty of healing to do yet. The fact that you are still having discomfort is a sign that your body is not fully healed. Most doctors do not recommend returning to work until after 6 weeks.
You may find many of the Post-op Articles helpful.
Be sure to read the post-op list of things Allowed? Not Allowed? and What Is Light Housework?.
Please be careful - rest and pamper yourself. I would suggest leaving the housework undone for awhile. I know it's hard for those of us who are perfectionists but having a complete and uncomplicated recovery is more important. You might want to read What could happen if I did too much too soon? .

6 weeks post-op issues
Wow, you are still very early in the recovery process. I am 6 weeks post op today and am returning to work for the first time next week. The first few days back at work I'll be working part time. You had major surgery and really need at least 6 weeks at home taking it easy. Can you delay your return to work? I hope you can.

Please take it easy. You only get one chance to heal properly and this is it. Work will be there when you're ready to go back, but right now, your health is more important. And what you do now can determine your future health for years to come.
Best wishes and s,
Lisa

6 weeks right?
If you are at 6 weeks then we had surgery around the same time. Mine was the 26th of Feb...
I am still sore, still pulling myself up and I still have to deal with the pulling sensations and just an over all heavy sensation in the incision area after being on my feet for a while.
I was pretty good at taking it easy until last week, I had to vacuum, and cut down some of the dead plants... So I overdid it just a bit, but was just tired and muscle sore the next day...
I have been to the office a few times, been working from home on my laptop though, so I was able to catch a break on the time I had to take off...
My hormones are the only thing that are wanky... I've developed a mask on my face, headaches and the mood swings are horrible...
I will be physically going back to work the 12th or so, as I travel, but I hope by that date, I will feel even more normal...
Good luck going back and take it easy when you can... My body definitely yaks at me when I've done too much so I do listen to it!

Thanks!
Thanks for all the replies! I really feel a part of the group after two postings (this makes 3) and four replies :-) My DD is teasing me for being so excited about this site and the 'sisterhood'.
It's been six weeks since my surgery (March 23, 2004), due back to work next Tuesday (April 6th).
The worst part today is the stinging at the incision. Had a good day overall. My DH just made a comment about the clothes I am wearing and that I shouldn't wear these capri pants anymore because they show too much of my 'belly'. He reminded me that even though he loves me belly and all, he doesn't want it to show in my clothes. Asked me if I needed new ones. Silly me -- should have said yes.

If you had surgery on March 23 that would make you about 10 days post-op. Are you meaning to say February 23rd? (Sometimes after major surgery we get what we call "brain fog" )
If your surgery was February 23rd and you are actually 6 weeks post-op it is still possible that your body is not fully healed yet. In that case, I would suggest taking a few extra weeks off before you return to work - the extra time could make a big difference in how you feel.

OOPS, wrong surgery date posted
So sorry ladies. During my bath today and thinking of the responses to my post, I realized that I stated the wrong date for my surgery. The correct date of my surgery is FEBRUARY 23, 2004.
DUH... My sincere apologies. I have corrected my profile.

I had tah on feb 10 and go back to work on april 5. I am doing well doc says can take up to 3 months for all stitches to dissolve. his motto is " if it hurts , don't do it"
Do a little day by day, sure its gonna hurt a bit at first cause you haven't used those muscles for a while but t does get easier
