AChing Legs... Anyone else w/ this problem?

I'm 2 weeks 1 day home from the hospital and my legs ache terribly. It woke me up in the night. I took a pain pill... but this a.m. they are still very achy and hurt. Not sharp pains... but dull achy pains. What is this? Is this from inactivity? I'm usually a very very active person physically. Is this from sitting around a lot?
I'm TVH BSO HRT

AChing Legs... Anyone else w/ this problem?

Hi Sandra! I have had terrible aching in my legs from about two weeks post op until about 4/5 days ago. I am 5 and a half weeks post op now. I went to see my doctor about the dreaded blood clots and she examined my legs, saying that typically if there were a clot, there would be a sharp localized pain and swelling. However, as I was having back/chest pain as well, she did a chest xray to be sure no clots were migrating. That came back negative as expected. I was pretty worried at the time. I have had some trouble in the past with leg circulation and varicose veins, and now in hindsight I attribute my leg pain to inactivity. I was doing some walking, but after I saw my doctor I walked incessently and spent as little time sitting as I could. I started sleeping with my legs inclined on a pillow, and when sitting in a soft chair would also make sure my legs were inclined. I don't know if that's what helped or if the situation subsided naturally, but I am MUCH better now and both my leg pain and back pain are quite relieved. I know from my very athletic friend that if she misses a couple of days of activity (running, biking, kickboxing) her leg muscles give her hell, so if you are that kind of athlete, maybe that's what's up for you...
Good luck, the end is in sight. I cannot believe how much better I feel this week!

AChing Legs... Anyone else w/ this problem?

Hi Sandra,

I am 5 weeks PO from TAH/bladder repair. I had the same thing that started about 8 days PO. I think it lasted for about 2 weeks before finally going away. I was also very active before surgery. I chalked it up to lying around the house all day. It does eventually go away, but mine also kept me up at night.

Hey thanks so much you guys!
I hate calling my DR about every little thing... I hate to sound paranoid. The thought of clots passed my mind too... especially because I'm taking HRT.
I have been very inactive this week due to bleeding from the cuff and just feeling worn out this week... so, I'm going to start walking today, stretching out what I can, and watch for those sharp pains and swelling. I just really think it's inactivity because I'm a hiker (and walk and bike a lot)... and on my job I'm constantly in motion.
Your responses helped me a bunch. Can I email you both personally if I have any more ?????
Thx!!!
Sandra in Texas
