When will it stop??
Hi everyone,
I had a TAH on March 25. I was scheduled for a LAVH but I had complications. My question is...when will the pain go away?? I am not one that can just sit or lay around. I have not done that much. I did some laundry, made the beds and took a couple of walks. I am miserable. There have been a couple days that I felt okay but emptied the dishwasher and was so sore a couple hours later I could not believe it. I am doing too much? I am also not thrilled about starting to drive. I go back to the doctor on April 13 and I assume I will be cleared to drive. I am so paranoid that I might bust stitches or something. I did start bleeding slightly yesterday and that worried me a little. I have not had any bleeding until yesterday. Sorry for rambling

When will it stop??
Hi. I had a TAH also, and most of the pain that I experienced came from gas , and getting my bowels working again. If that is the kind of pain you are having, it starts to ease up around 2 weeks or so.( you might want to try prune juice twice a day, one first thing in the morning, and before bed at night. Also drink lots of water, and walk when you are able for the gas and bowels). You may want to ease up a bit on your activity too, if you are feeling that tired. I don't think I was doing laundry that early ( unless DH carried the baskets for me). I also started to drive around 2 weeks, just short trips at first ( 20 minute trip in total).
Hope this helps a little, and you feel better soon.

Hi
Thank you for writing. No I do have the gas pains. I am pretty used to that because I had a tubal in December and had horrible gas pains. The pain is in my gut I swear it feels like everything is going to fall out when I stand up. I hope you are doing well and thank you again )

Tracee, Do you wear an abdominal binder or support panties? They make all the difference when it comes to that "guts are gonna fall out" feeling. I found some great support panties for 6 dollars each at walmart. I just told my mom today that I can't believe I spent thirty bucks on granny panties! The brand is cupid--the extra firm control ones. Feel better!

It sounds like you need to slow down. My pain stopped around 3 to 4 weeks(LAVH). I was able to start doing laundry and dishes at three weeks. I know how hard it is not to do anything but must take care of your self first. Take it easy.

When will it stop??
I'm almost 5 weeks post op and every day is different, I really had not had any pain until just a few days ago, I think the numbness is going away and Im starting to feel more things, but it still isnt anything that is really severe thank goodness. I also wore support shorts for a while to help with the "falling gut" feeling, they helped me a ton.

When will it stop??
hi all:
several things I want to mention...the pain comes and goes with me...some days I feel good and others i hurt a lot. I would be leary of the bleeding...call dr to make sure everything is ok. I bled in hosp lightly by the time I got home the bleeding was gone and no discharge. I know it is hard to lie around and do nothing. But you can do internal damage without realizing by making beds your reaching and pulling. Loading dishwasher same thing. Laundry that can wait. I did laundry at almost two weeks post op and it about killed me. I did it again at almost four weeks and i still hurt and exhausted and done for the day. I would caution you to rest...take short walks drink plenty of water and fluids. and promise me no vacuming. I will be able to vacume on tues. My carpet looks awful and I try not to think about it.
Here is a quote from this site: "YOu only get one chance to heal properly". There are sisters here who have had complications and I hate to see you one to be one of them.
there are three articles at this web site... you might find interesting...what not to do and what to do. why doing too much soon may harm you now i forgot the third one they might all be together sorry I am still having brain fog.
hugs to you

I have not had my surgery yet but if you think you are doing too much--maybe you are? If you hurt after taking the dishes out of the dishwasher, don't do it. If you have a normal dishwasher, then that means you need to bend over at the waist to get the dishes out. OUCH! I don't think that bending over will help with the feeling of your insides falling out. Take it easy. I believe you are to be a pamped princess right?! Play a video game, watch all the movies that you like, read a book or what ever. Good Luck!
