Help-my appetite is back! 1 week at home

Today is a week I am home. I have gone from barely taking a few forkfuls of any food last Sun to being really hungry today. I am giving myself a lot of protein, etc (I like lower carb)but having come out of the whole process down 12 lbs I don't want to put it back on.

Today is also the first day I don't feel like I am on Planet Fog. I slept well, am alert, etc. I am also not having any pain except right along the incision area (scar tissue?), the incision is fine. I noticed a slight lessening of the swelly belly-I can actually fit in underpants that didn't fit last week. I haven't had a lot of pain all along and managed to turn in bed easily, etc. I still hold my tummy to cough or go to the bathroom sometimes. I'm on my own except for some friends and neighbors at this point, do not seem to be having any issues. (I'm a TAH)

So hang in there, it doesn't have to be a horror story

Hi ewinpa,

It sounds like your recovery is coming along nicely ! At only 1 week post-op, you still have a ways to go, and hopefully things will continue to go well for you.

I'm not sure why you thought your recovery would be a horror story. Being prepared for what to expect helped me a lot when I was recovering; though I admit that I didn't realize what a major recovery it would be before I found HS and read about so many other's experiences. Though it's true that many women do experience difficulties and complications, there are many women whose recovery is more the "norm".

I think that knowing what to expect and following post-op instructions and restrictions is so very important. Especially when we begin to feel better and want to push ourselves to returning to activities too soon. Be sure to get lots of and limit your exercise at this point to frequent short s.

Best wishes and s
