I to have my ovaries in. It was discussed and I thought I made it clear that they were to go because of grandmothers history.I thought I made it clear for them to go but I guess not. I don't have anything wrong with them like you. Do you know of why after 2 yrs most have to go have them out? I was really worried about this.

Ovaries??? Will i have to have surgery again????

I was just talking to a women about my hyster and she told me the she had her hyster 24 years ago she was only 22 at the time and her ovaries are just now starting to shut down. She also told me that it did take them some time after her hyster for them to start working. We are all different but this does give me some hope that all will go well with my ovaries.

Melinda...

(((Melinda)))

First of all, remember that each person is different, so don't let yourself go crazy second-quessing what you 'should have done', okay?

I think what they are refferring to is some statistical idea that if you remove one ovary the other one is 50% more likely to stop working within 5 years. That's just a statistic...but women are all different and experience far different things than statistics. Some ovaries go to 'sleep' after a hyster. There's no way to predic what will happen.

As for me, I had my hyster a year ago, and now my remaining ovary has a cyst on it (endo is back). I'll be having it remove May 3rd. Do I regret keeping it? No. It worked for another year...and there was no way for me to be sure I'd have a problem with it. I don't like to go through another surgery...but that's how it worked out for me. If it did not have a cyst on it I would keep it, or if the cyst did not create as much pain as it does I would keep it longer. Also, my doctor tried to help me see if it would shrink with BC pills. I cannot take them...(bad side effects) so I'm left with the surgery option.

Please don't let yourself worry about it too much. Whatever happens you'll be able to deal with it and you'll always have your sisters here to help you through it. Don't feel like you did something wrong...there's really no 'one size fits all' answer for these things.

I would suggest that you talk with your doctor about having and ultrasound in 3 months to see if the cyst has changed in size...and periodically check it to see if it's changing.

Take care (((Melinda)))

Ovaries??? Will i have to have surgery again????

My surgeon strongly recommends removing the ovaries when having a hysterectomy because 40% of women who have just their uterus removed develop ovarian masses. These masses can be totally benign but ultrasounds and other scans cannot determine the status. It requires surgery to get in there and check the mass. Of course, on the other hand, 60% of women have no problems.

Ovaries??? Will i have to have surgery again????

I had my TVH 2 years ago and my doc was only able to keep one ovary (the other ruptured during procedure). I didn't have any problems until about 7 months ago when I started with severe pain. They did sono which revealed cyst. The doctor wanted to wait and see what happened so he said that he would follow up in a few months.
Well almost 2 months ago I started with the pain even worse and they did an MRI, I still have the cyst but now I also have another unidentiable structure near the vaginal cuff. Right now I'm waiting on the reports from the CT and follow-up MRI to see what the doctor wants to do.
Personally, I'm worried and would opt to have them remove whatever it is. I can't stand the pain and I'm worried that it will turn into something worse.
What do you think that I should do???

I suggest talking with your doctor and explaining to him how you feel. He might agree that it is time to remove the offending parts. If he doesn't agree, have him explain in detail and to your satisfication why.

Hope this helps a little.

Ovaries??? Will i have to have surgery again????

Hi, I am three weeks post op from a TAH but kept right ovary. I have been healing very nicely until last night, I was in more pain than I have ever been in in my life. DH rushed me to the ER and they found a 2.5 inch hemragetic cyst (spelling?), I don't know exactly what this means. I have an appointment in the AM with my OB/GYN. The ovary looked good when she did the surgery, she was going to take it if it was bad, the left one had a large cyst, she never told me the size and I had endo. I am now nervous about the possiblity of having another surgery so soon. I do not tolerate BCP due to high blood pressure. I was surprised at how quickly it came on.
