Cancer Diagnosis - Prayers needed!
(((Nanette))):
Please, please come over to the Cancer Concerns forum. You will find an amazing group of women who are living with cancer and can travel this trail with you.
I'm glad you are being sent to a GYN-oncologist. They really are the experts at the complex surgeries and therapy options, depending upon what they find. You are probably looking at another surgery to evaluate the lymph nodes, etc. Only then can they determine your treatment.
The ladies over in CC are wonderful, and can answer your questions about this. I think there's one lady over there now who is facing the same scenario, I think -- you could compare notes...
Please, too, don't hesitate to go to a second opinion with another GYN-oncologist. You will be working with this person for some time to come, and the more comfortable you are, the easier it is.
My prayers are with you that this has not spread. Your oncologist MUST have copies of any slides or specimen photographs for evaluation; sometimes a pathology second opinion is quite useful. It's a long road to be heading down, but I think you'll see a lot of women over there thriving -- some years out!
Big s. I'll look for your posts on the CC side!
Audrey

Cancer Diagnosis - Prayers needed!
My prayers are with you. I know how scarey the "C" word can be.
I had a TAH/BSO with staging on 3/25. My gyn thought it was complex hyperplasia with atypia and wanted to do a TVH but I asked for a 2nd opinion from a gyn/onc. He then asked for a 2nd pathology opinion and based upon that recommended the TAH.
You are totally doing the right thing by seeing the gyn/onc. Not only is he an expert in cancer, but in our particular type. Ask questions and keep asking if you don't get the answers you want.
Fortunately, I am Stage IA, which means it had not spread. I require no further treatment except follow-up every 3 months for 2 years.
As I said, I really understand your fears. I did a lot of praying and meditating which really helped a lot during the days before my surgery. As crazy as it sounds, I would imagine strong healthy little musclemen (cartoony looking) entering my body while I meditated as the sick little weaklings left my body...all to soothing music. For some reason, all this made me feel stronger and calmer.
Try to keep a positive and strong outlook (BTW...I used to hate it when people told me that)...it really helps.
Bless you.
