My Doc wants to do a LSH.. New Hyster?

The wizzard called and said I am an excellent candidate for the LSH Laparascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy.

I have Severe Stage IV Endo and had a Laparoscopy last year to diagnose this. I also had both tubes removed during the procedure.

So, the jist of it is this. He has never done this procedure and attended a seminar last month and said he was amazed. Contacted the Dr. who was performing the procedure and asked about one on one training. So, my Dr. and this Dr. (who is from the University of Miami) will be performing this procedure on 3 patients. My Doc wants me to be one of them. Says, it is much less invasive than the TAH I would have to have, I am keeping my cervix, the down time is 2-3 weeks as oppossed to 6-8 weeks, the hospital stay is 2 days instead of 4 AND he wants to do this on APRIL 27th!!

My head is spinning!! Please, if you know anything about this procedure please fill me in.. GOOD or BAD..

Thanks!!

My Doc wants to do a LSH.. New Hyster?

I am also having an LSH in June, and very happy about it. My only concern about yours is how many procedures has the other Dr. (not yours) performed? From what I understand, it is a fairly complicated procedure (from the doctor's side), and takes a skilled surgeon to perform. I know that someone has to be the first "guinea pig", but make sure the other Dr. is VERY well qualified to perform the surgery.

My doctor has done 30-40 LSH procedures, but the assisting doctor has done 100's, so I feel comfortable with that team.

From what I understand, it is an excellent alternative to the other hysters, so much less down time, and easier recovery. If you feel comfortable with the doctors, I'd say go for it!

Hi there Seeya,

My surgery date is the same as yours April 27th.

I was wondering how the LSH is done?? Through the vaginal as well as the cervix??

Do tell!!

There are four small incisions in the abdomen. One for a light, and the others for the instruments. They cut the uterus out with the laser - above the cervix and from the fallopian tubes, then "chop up" the uterus, or as my doctor says, they use a "fajita shredder". I just love that description!!! They then suck out the pieces, and close up the small incisions. I hope that isn't too descriptive!

I'm keeping the cervix and my ovaries.

I had both my tubes removed last May during a Laparaoscopy. So he will be taking my Uterus and Ovaries.

I am still with all this. I have to call the wizzard tomorrow and let him know.

Only13 days!!! UGH.. PLUS I will be out of town April 23-25th for my DD competition. So I come home and them BAMN!!

Very nervous..

Thanks for the description...not too gross.

There is another post going on right now about this type of hyster. I find it very interesting, and plan to read all the posts from it..also going to do a search about LSH.

Being out of town the weekend before the big day might just be a blessing in disguise..you'll be out and concentrating on other things..which is good.

Let's keep in touch, my pre-op appointment is April 20th and I plan to ask about the LSH then.

My Doc wants to do a LSH.. New Hyster?

Hi Girls;

I have been writing on this site since January when I learned that I would be having a L.S.H. I am scheduled for April 27th. I have written to several woman whom have had this surgery and each and every one is absolutely delighted with the outcome. By the way if your doctor is experienced he will know that you have to cauterize the cervix so that there are no periods ever again. There is one great lady on this site who had it sobe 13 days ago and is back to working out 2.5 hours and teaching fitness classes. Her name is wonderwoman and I would suggest reading all her posts. She has been most helpful and inspirational.

My doctor had done thousands of these procedures. Remeber though, that not everyone is a candidate for it. The hospital stay is either same day or overnight. The recovery time is 7 -10 days. Huge difference from the other types of procedures. It is one of the most minimally invasive surgeries but don't get me wrong - it's still surgery.

If you have any questions or want more info you could email me or p.m. me.

Debbie
