vaginal cuff

This may sound stupid but I am not sure what the vaginal cuff is. I can't seem to find anything much on the internet about it. Can someone enlighten me?

vaginal cuff

Hi,

If you had your cervix removed, the surgeon takes the end of the vagina where the cervix was located and puts a line of sutures in it to sew it shut.

Imagine a paper towel cardboard tube or the sleeve on a shirt. If you pinch the end together and sew it, it forms a blind pouch. This dead-end that is sewn shut is what is known as the vaginal cuff.

Now is that as clear as mud or what?

s,

Lisa

Everything (uterus, ovaries, tubes) is tied off. Once the blood supply has been cut off to those organs, the surgeon lifts the uterus out of the abdomen. This stretches the vagina, and he/she cuts the vagina just below the cervix. The vagina is then stitched shut, creating the vaginal cuff.

My question is....

Do you only have a "cuff" if you have your cervix removed? I guess I need to ask the doc if he removed it whenever he removed all the other parts.

edited.....Never mind, called my doctor and I did have my cervix removed along w/tubes, uterus & ovaries.
Now..after 4 weeks.......I know!
