Hair loss?
Wow!! I have NEVER worried about hair loss., my hair is VERRRRY thick and healthy. I've been on HRT for 2 years now, but had to change to Climara patch after my total hyster. All the symptoms of meno have eased up since changing my HRT but I've noticed I have hair falling out every day, in the shower, just falling on my neck or clothes. etc. I know everyone loses so many 'hairs' in a day, but this is over and above average for me.
Any ideas?

Hair loss?
I am not on HRT and have never had a thryoid problem (at least not that I know of). I had a TAH 7 weeks ago and so far have not had any problems with hair loss.
BUT...I did have surgery about a year ago and suffered hair loss after that procedure. It seemed like it would fall out in clumps in the shower. I have thin hair to begin with so I was very concerned. I found out it could be a result of the surgery. Your body is basically tramatized during surgery and this is one way it can react. Mine lasted for awhile and then went away as quickly as it started. Hope this helps.

Hair loss?
Just wondering - what were you on before switching to Climara and how much estrogen is in your Climara patch? Also, how long ago did you switch?

Hair loss?
This can be a result of surgery. I am also hypothyroid, so I'm used to a certain amount of hair loss (good think I have a lot!) but it was really coming out A LOT after surgery -- then it settled down to normal after a while....I don't remember how long, but it did get back to what is normal for me.

Hair loss?
it could be the anethsia the doctor will say no, but we hairdressers know better..we see it all the time. general anethsia over epideral will cause hair loss and let's not forget good old STRESS will do it too. it will take a couple of months for it to feel better. in the mean time use a good shampoo and conditioner..thats from a salon not the supermarket...good luck donna

Hair loss?
I think Harleywomen is correct. Hairdressers know our hair better than anyone. I also have thick hair, but I started losing it about 2 months post-op. It was so bad I had to keep un-plugging my shower drain! My co-worker started pulling hair off of my sweater one day and she asked me if I was shedding :hair:. I finally decided to call my DR. He acted like he had never heard of this unless it was thyroid-related. When he reviewed my recent lab work, he ruled that out. He then told me that if it continued into early December, I should call him again. I thought if I went bald by then -- he was in big trouble! I put off getting my hair colored because I was afraid even more would fall out, but I finally went in and had it done when my DH commented on how gray my roots were getting . My hairdresser -- whom I've been going to for approx. 16 years -- could tell my hair had thinned, but she could also see new hair growing in. She said she's seen this happen to other people after surgery. Pretty soon I had short little baby hairs all over my head that I could see when I parted my hair. I haven't had anymore problems since.
I would check with your DR and rule out thyroid problems, etc., but more than likely it is temporary like mine was.
Good luck!

wow, I guess I shouldn't complain, LOL Cuz my hair is not falling out like that. I just feel strands on my back or neck and was getting concerned cuz I never had that before. I did get my hair coloured 4 weeks ago, and he never mentioned anything about hair loss, actually he commented on how good my hair looked post-op, and how thick it is still. (the hair falling out just started last week)
Thanks for all your posts, I'll keep ya updated, and wish you all a great night!
