To Drive Or Not To Drive That Is The Question!

I drove 9 days after TAH. Bored and frustratio were mainly to blame. In the UK docs generally advise not to drive until after 6 weeks and then say try an emergency stop and see what that feels like. Obviously what a person does thereafter is up to them. However, car insurance companies are different. Most policies state any damage caused may negate your policy.

Found this one out personally. Accidentally backed into a concrete pole designed to stop lorries reversing near offices. The only real damage was to my pride, I had driven to my husband's place of work and was waving goodbye to some friends there!

The car damage was £100 but the insurance company refused the claim. (Thankfully the injured party was concrete and in itself not damaged!).

I guess the moral of the story is check your recovery is ok, then check your insurance policy .............. there are so many idiots driving around and your already more vulnerable and may sustain further injuries.

Take care on those roads!

To Drive or Not to drive?????

I guess each is different about when you should .
My told me that I could drive after 4 weeks post op. I did not know about the insurance thing. I will check my policy and make sure.

2 weeks

My doctor told me I could not drive for two weeks. I am three weeks today and I am driving and have been without a problem. I actually find it easier to drive so I can avoid potholes! My husband driving tends to be fast and as passenger I find it more painful. But I feel so good, I am up and about. Lately I do have twinges of pain though.

To Drive Or Not To Drive That Is The Question!

Hi there

In the UK they say you are not to drive for 8 weeks without informing your insurance company. I am now 9 weeks post op and still have not driven. I too was told to try an emergency stop or stamp your foot hard on the floor to see if it hurts, if it does then the hospital say don't do it, I personally am a little worried about causing myself damage, your insides have been pretty shaken and cut, and these internal injuries, for want of a better description, have a lot of healing to do! I wouldn't want to damage anything by braking hard and sitting in an uncomfortable driving position. If I want shopping I get hubby to take me or have it delivered, and people can come and see me for a change. as I am the one who normally runs around after everyone else.

So please take care of yourself and get healed first.

Linnij

My doctor said just as long as I wasnt taking any pain medications, I could drive anytime I felt like it! I waited until the eleventh day and then I was back on the road again!
