bleeding for 15 months

Hi Everyone, I can't tell you how happy I am that I found this site. I had a hysterectomy 15 months ago due to a placenta accreta. The placenta actually grew throught the wall of my uterus and on to my bladder. My uterus was removed but I still have my cervix and both ovaries. I started to have a regular period pretty much from the beginning. I asked the doctor who preformed the surgery and was told it is pretty common to have spotting at the time your period would be due. I have had a period now every 28 days since the surgery. I would say it is a little lighter than a normal period but definently more than spotting. Just as I had come to terms with the fact I no longer have a uterus but still have a period, I now have a new problem. About 2 months ago, I started having slight bleeding after sex and about a week before my period was due. I went to the doctor and he did a pelvic exam and an ultrasound but basically found nothing. I was told that this was probably due to a little bit of my uterus that was still remaining as it is hard to tell how much they removed because I had such a tricky surgery. Has anyone else ever had a problem similiar to this? I just don't understand how I can have so much bleeding all the time.

bleeding for 15 months

Hi ((dianne)) and welcome
I'm sorry tho it is for ongoing issues When the Cervix is left intact it can be difficult for the Surgeons to remove all the Endometrial tissue from it, this is what would shed monthly, resulting in our periods. There have been several Ladies over the past year who have underwent this surgery, like you, retained their Cervix...to help reduce the risk of min-periods or resolve any current issues with bleeding, they had a Cauterization done. It burned away any remaining tissue, even microscopic, that can result in this. Perhaps you could inquire to your own Dr about this procedure Or if he is not aware of it, maybe he can suggest someone who does?!?
You can search the forums using the keywords; Cauterization, *LSH or *SAH or any other similar terms. They should contain some additional info into this...

Good Luck in finding some resolve I do hope you will continue to post & share how things are going for you....((((hugs))))

bleeding for 15 months

Thanks so much for the info and the support. I am just so tired of having the same problem and basically getting ignored by my doctor. I honestly think he thinks it is no big deal but he isn't the one living with it. I will definently be asking him about the caterization. His solution was to put me on the pill if I was still having irregular bleeding after 4 months. I will keep you posted.
