Christmas in a can
My surgery is scheduled for 11 Dec, and I don't intend doing anything at Christmas. I've been told to expect being in the castle for at least 4 days (here in UK anything before then is quite unusual!)
DH always makes dinner (I'm such a bad cook - well that's what I led him to believe when I first met him and I've done nothing since to make him change his mind! lol
I would get DH to open a can of anything (tuna would do!) for them if they insist on visiting, get yourself into bed, and ignore them.

Tracy, This is YOUR healing time now. Not you dh family. Remember..you have one chance to heal properly. Don't let ANYONE mess this up for you. DH should step up to the plate and tell them, My wife has just come through MAJOR SURGERY and the doctors said "NO Visitors at this time" "We'll just have to make up for it another time", PERIOD! It's your home! Use that time to REST, You may not know it yet...but you are going to NEED IT,Hon! Stop worrying, and don't stress yourself out. You body doen't need this right now.

Goodluck to you on your surgery,My surgery is scheldued on
Dec.18. I have been told that I will ruin the usual family
celebration. However I have gone forward with my plans, since I have postponed this surgery several times, due to
my husbands unemployment, my job, etc. I want to feel better,as you can see my username, life has not been to easy for me for awhile. I will say a prayer for you. I believe
in miracles.

Hi Tracy
Sorry to hear your stay will only be one day for your TVH. I'm also from Canada just outside of Toronto. I was originally going to have a TVH and was told I would be in for 2-3 days. I would really speak to your DR.
I'm now having a TAH/BSO and told 3-4days plus.
As to the family. I know what your going through holiday season is always celebrated at my house. I'll be out for approx. 4 weeks by then and have told everyone someone else will have to do it, or we'll have it sometime in January. It's a tramatic time for all of us Hyster Sisters. You will need plenty of rest. Even if you do get out the same day you will need alot of R & R and support.
Take Care, Be strong and Best Wishes.

Sleep
Hello, and welcome. Listen Sweetie, I would do exactly what Twy said, sleep, and blame it on the anestisia.(SP?)
If they really cared about you, they should leave you alone. If not, ignore them. You will need your rest. Your husband should step up to the plate, and tell them you are not to be bothered. Good luck! I'm going to the castle on Nov. 15th, if I can get rid of this darn sinus infection!

Thanks to all for your replies. Some of them were hilarious.lol and all of them were great idea. I think I WILL go ahead with the original Christmas plan and have DH's family over with me hanging out in the bedroom. I'll sleep or something. (LET THEM THINK THAT ANYWAY!) HA.
Thanks again for all replies. They were a tremendous help.

Here's an idea...ask THEM how they'd feel if it was THEM that was going through this..I bet they wouldn't be so gung-ho about it all, if the shoe was on the other foot. I don't know why it is, but some people just can't get the message about the situation someone is getting ready to go/going through..it just doesn't sink in. Maybe if you could actually make them realize how THEY'D feel if it was THEM, that may help them to understand.

Visitors!
Hello! I did have some visitors in the hospital my 2nd day post-op when I didn't feel up to having them, so I closed my eyes and "slept" while my visitors talked quietly. I actually did drift in and out of sleep while they talked. This worked very well for me, as I did not have to make conversation, but my visitors felt they did their duty by visiting me. They were thoughtful enough to lower their voices. Decide ahead of time if you will receive your visitors in your bedroom or in living/family room. If in your bedroom, tell your husband ahead of time that you may be too sleepy to visit, then he can be prepared to usher your visitors to another room when you "fall asleep." If in another room, he can insist that you go to your bed when your eyes start closing, then he can continue to visit with his family.
Hope your recovery goes well!
