9 days Dr. says back to normal

Hi Diana,

I'm so very sorry you had such an experience with your doctor. Sisters who think male gyns who are terrible and attribute it to their maleness...TAKE NOTE! As the song says, "It Ain't Necessarily So". I myself once had a terrible female gyn and switched to a great male gyn, who has seen me through the birth of 3 kids, numerous female procedures, and now my hyst.

Diana, I want to add that your pain appearing this early in your recovery could be very normal. Anesthesia is still leaving your body, and stitches are starting to dissolve, causing you to "feel" your surgery more now. Please regard this as a cue to rest with your feet UP as much as possible (prolonged sitting puts pressure on stitches). See if extra rest helps. Believe me, it's too early to tell if your hyst has given you a pain-free life, and you should not be feeling under any pressure to get back to normal. Even simple outings like grocery shopping can take a big toll on you this early...try to minimize them!

My very best to you...

Linda

Diana

Diana,
I had my LAVH also Nov 1st and my Gyn said complete pelvic rest, no intercourse, no douching or tampons for 6 weeks. No lifting anything I could not pick up one handed and no driving for 2 weeks-the day of my post-op appt.
I'm sorry to say this, but I think your Gyn must be confused about your case--As the others advised, call the office and ask the questions again, maybe the nurse/midwife/practioner can help, or act as a go between for you. Or maybe your local hospital may have a nurse-on- call phone line for questions. Please don't overdo and take a chance of hurting yourself, as everyone will tell you, you only have one chance at recovery.
At this point in my recovery, I am still really sore, my back is killing me, and although I have only lap incisions, vaginally I feel as if I have given birth. I am so sore I can't imagine sex, I can barely handle sitting up for too long before it hurts. I have even been hoping to talk the Dr into letting me have the whole 6 weeks off from work.
Sweetie, I really feel for you. Take care of yourself and do what you need to recover the best way for you at your own pace. Peace to you.

I agree with the other sisters

Dear Diana,
Wow! I have never heard of a doc saying you are ok in nine days no matter what type of hyst you had. Mine was laprascopic and I was told nothing in the vagina for at least 4 weeks (that's when I have a check up) and possibly six weeks. Nothing strenuous, no lifting etc. Also no driving even for about 2 weeks. Call your doctor again. If she is not fully aware of your case and has no compassion or bad advice, then I would switch. I know that may be hard to do since you are emotional right now and this doctor did your surgery. It must be very hard for you. Tell this docotr what everyone said on this board. I'm hoping this docotr was confused or having a bad day or something. You deserve better treatment. Keep us posted.
Love, Light, Blessings

Thank you!

Dear Everyone,
Thank you all for your posts. I have been in tears all day thinking I did this surgery for nothing and feeling that I should be better. I even have been really doing things, like light housework, laundry, etc., since I felt I should and the pain is miserable.
Thank you for all your support. It helps so much to hear other doctors orders. Unfortunately, I don't think my doctor got my chart mixed up since she was reading it in front of me. But she WAS 'not' there since she thought it had been 2 weeks, not 9 days. I feel sort of 'kicked' out by her.
This is the SECOND female gyn that I had that treated me awfully. The first I had when I had a dermoid, who advised me that it was absolutely necessary for me to have an abortion because of the dermoid. I did it, and she said that she didn't get it all, did another D & C with no sedative or pain med because she saw it as life-threatening. I went back 2 days later and she said she wanted to put me under general and really 'scrape me out' ANd if I didn't listen to her, I couldn't blame her if I died that weekend~ That's when I went to another and found out that she had mixed up my tipped uterus with a masswhich she thought was an infection.
Sad part was that was the 2nd time I ever got pregnant, first was miscarriage and never happened again. Other doctors told me that I could have carried the child.
Anyway, thank you all as I was blaming myself.
I think I was part of a research project, as my doctor was most concerned as to how many painkillers I took for her 'records.'
I guess I will call her on Monday and see if she explains things and if she doesn't go to another doctor.
I'm so used to a very very compassionate accupuncturist who worked so hard to help me with the fibroids. Thank you all. This hurts emotionally and I think I would go crazy without all of you here.

Dear Diana,

My heart goes out to you. You are going through so much needless pain. I wish you could have had the care you deserve. You should be on the road to recovery, not tormented like this. I would contact your dr., and ask for your medical information. I don't like to say this, but it sounds as if this dr should be reported. It doesn't sound like she should be practicing medicine at all. Please lay off the cleaning and laundrey. Take some time for yourself to heal properly. You deserve that. I truly hope that everything works out for you. Please let us know what happens with your doc.

Hugs,

Judy

9 days Dr. says back to normal

Dear Diana,
Me again. Just WORRIED about you! Is the pain on your left side better yet? If your "old Doctor" was only concerned about how many pain killers you took for HER records....I was wondering how many you ARE taking? I was off mine 2 or 3 days after I was home from the castle. (everybody is different, I know) Hope you are resting and not cleaning or something!
P.S. What's a witchy woman?

9 days Dr. says back to normal

Hi.
I decided to find a new doctor, maybe not right away, but am going to get my records sent to me. (The thought of seeing a new gyn right now is too frightening.)
I called to leave a message today and got the Sunday doctor, my doctor's colleague call me back. She said it was normal to feel pain 9 days and gave me something to help sleep for 5 days since that's when it bothers me most.
I spend most of day in bed and do feel a bit better.
I was off of most my pain pills except for evening by 3rd day. Took 1, of the 1 - 2 recommended, every 3 hours for first 3 days. Since I wasn't sleeping, I went through them quickly. I have an adverse reaction to painkillers...insomnia.
I have had other surgeries and ALWAYS end up with extra painkillers because I don't like the feeling of them in my head, so it was strange to me this time.
I'm going to call Blue Cross for a gyn referral tomorrow. Since going to new gyns in the area is touchy, I've decided not to say anything 'bad' about my old doctor. Just tell them that it was too emotionally difficult to go there. (My husband and I had artificial insemination there and it is rather hard to be in a place where I went several times hoping to get pregnant.)
I guess I should have known when at my pre-op she had such an awful twitch! It was worse on my post-op. All I know is that I don't want a doctor who when I say: "Should I call if I'm still in pain in 2 weeks?" tells me "No, you'll be fine and shouldn't need to see me until next year!"
Thanks, everyone, for listening. I'm going to really rest this week and see if the pain gets better.
Soynut: "Witchy Woman" was a word I used because I'm usually very in tune with myself and very intutive. I had a dream before my surgery that my doctor told me that my uterus was smaller than she thought and it came true when she told me the path report. 270 instead of 437.
I beat myself up because I think I should know better and sometimes I'm angry at myself for not following my own gut hunches (my witchy-womaness) and instead following authority.
I'm so glad for this site because NO doctor can know what we are going through unless they had it done.
I hope everyone else is doing ok, too.

Hi!,
Hope today finds you feeling alittle better! Your hunches are leading you down the right path now! I've found that "word of mouth" really helps me find new Doctors. Ask around: neighbors, friends (sometimes their hesitant), Welcome Wagon or New Friends, Church, etc.
My post op was one week after surgery. I wasn't having any problems so my next apt. was scheduled for 6 weeks. But I see from the posts that they very alot. Try to relax, rest and stop worrying. Your pain should feel alittle better with each day. But it all takes time and lots of it. Full recovery (I hear) is 6-9 months! If your pain is not better maybe ER should see you and make sure you're recovery is going ok. Let us know how you are!

Anyone from Canada?

This is to Kim in Alberta or Canadians on the list. I am in Victoria and have been assigned to a gyn (because all others were full or had a waiting list of 3-4 months). My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 12th. Imagine my surprise when I was told by my gyn's nurse that my pre-op visit would be with my family physician and not him. How is this possible? Doesn't it make more sense to talk to him (he is actually doing the surgery)? Is this normal? Or am I been given the run around by his nurse.

Hi Shakti,

I live in Toronto, and had my pre-op appt at the hospital where I had the operation. In some ways I wish my pre-op had been with my GP, as I feel very comfortable with him. You have met your gyn haven't you? If not, I would insist on a vist to his/her office. You should have peace of mind knowing face to face, who is doing your surgery. You could have the blood work and other pre-op stuff done at your GP's, but you should just go and talk to the surgeon. I wish you all of the best. I'm two weeks post-op and feeling great!
